Transfer footage to another P2 Card

I think I may have a corrupt P2. I can see the footage on the camera but it keeps locking up FCP. Can I put another P2 into the camera and move the footage?

How are you offloading the card? P2Content Manager or Drag and Drop? If it plays on the camera, it is not corrupt. Please make sure you have locked your card and give us more details on your process.

I'm using the "Log and Transfer" in Final Cut. I feel like the problem is that there were two seperate projects shot in two different formats on the card. When I try to move it in FCP, it just locks up the program. I've tried deleting the "other" format project but still having the same issue. I'm not aware of P2 Content Manager. Is it in the DVX manual?

I've had this camera for 4 years now and have not had this issue before. I've always used the same process. I thought that was relevant.

It's not a card issue. I have two of these cameras and formatted the second, shot some random footage and it does the same thing. It will take one or two clips and then freeze up. Wipe the prefs? If so, can anyone direct me to the correct preferences to wipe?

And the prefs are wiped and still freezing up. I know what you're thinking: This guy is talking to his self. Yep. FCP still freezes up with fresh prefs, Clean Your Mac, and now I guess it's on to a complete re-install of the program. Good luck Rod. Thanks Rod.

If you are copying from one card to another, you need to copy the original card to your hard drive and then copy the folder sturcture to the other P2 card/ Do not use Log and Transfer, that is an FCP function. You are trying to make a P2 function. You need to copy just data.

I'm just trying to get the footage from the camera into FCP to edit. For the last few years, I just hook up the camera to the Mac, open FCP, use the Log and Transfer function and bring it into the project. I just finished an unistall of FCP and it's still doing it. I made sure that my settings match the footage size and it will get maybe four or five clips in and then beach ball of death.

Hi,

You should just start with a complete re-install of FCP. Add to it when done the AVCCAM Importer (do a Google Search) There is no reason that it should not be working other than something is amiss with your computer setup.

Now the workflow that you have chosen, to import directly from the cards is not the best workflow nor is it recommended. It is always better to move the data off the cards onto a nice safe hard drive and then log and transfer from there. You really should rethink this as if something were to go wrong with the import and trash the card, you would be in a very bad position.

Hope this helps,

Jan

this is an FCP problem.

question: are you trying to log/transfer directly from the P2 card?
(im 99.97% certain this isnt part of your problem. just trying to nail down your process...)

I am importing the footage directly from the camera to FCP. It has worked well in the past until now. I will search for the AVCCAM Importer and run that route. I will also see about a firmware upgrade for the camera. The uninstall of FCP and reinstall did not fix the problem. Thanks to both of you for getting involved.

yeah, FWIW i NEVER suggest capturing directly from the card - unless you are just capturing EVERYTHING. which i also consider kinda silly.

try this. copy the whole card to your computer. (create new folder on your computer or external drive or whatever you work from. open the P2 card, select all and drag and drop CONTENTS AND lastclip into to that new folder) then log and transfer from that.

there are more solutions. just trying to isolate things one by one
