FS7: transcode UHD XAVC-I to Pro Res UHD?

I need to transcode FS7 UHD XAVC-I footage to Pro Res UHD . I thought I could do this in Catalyst Browse but I'm not seeing any options higher than 2K Pro res for transcoding . Am I missing something?

If CB won't do it what's my easiest bet? I have Resolve 12.5 and am thinking about downloading the free trial of Premiere.
What else can do this?

No Luts it was shot in Custom mode.

In Resolve should I do it by just choosing the media and then going to media management and transcode, or make a timeline and then export it as ProRes.

It looks like the Export method allows me to drop the extra audio tracks. Any other pros or cons?

Resolve surely? Also you could knock off the empty sound channels and make lutted proxies

Sam - as I'm still new to Resolve (and starting to hate Browse as for some reason, it became very unstable on my otherwise clean system, crashing very often), I'd love to start using Resolve for ingesting my FS7 footage into my systems' source drive). How exactly do you do this, and waht are your steps for proxy creation as well (my system is so blazingly fat now that I replaced my mediocre Quadro M2000 with a GTX 1080 8GB GPU that I do not proxies now, but I can imagine that when my grades (or compositing) become more and more complex in time, I might consider using them at some point - now hovrwer using "smart caching" to my super-fast Toshiba M.2 SSD, I still prefer working with full resolution originals). When copying from the XQD card, I don't see to transcode them, either - but again, might want to do it in the future when I start shooting to XAVC-L in longer projects and very limited space on my XQD cards (at the moment, I only record with XAVC-I).

Will appreciate your suggestions very much indeed. Please tell me also whether it makes any sense of keeping the entire card structure rather the ingest just the video files from the XQD "Clips" directory; will Resolve make any use whatsoever of the entire structure? I somehow don't see Resolve even understanding the FS7 metadata... TIA,

Piotr

I'd make a timeline but that is the only way i know

Mold
i copy the whole folder xdroot - can't see why not to. I just drag and drop - others like to use shotput or whatever because it make them sound pro.

I asked Sony about this, they answered they 'are considering to add 4K transcode in Catalyst in the future'.
I use Resolve (PC version) and it can only convert on dnxhq.
Google on converting to prores results in a bunch of (all the same) blogs that promotes some software that doesn't work either.

I can't find any other solutions than buying a mac, which I won't do.
So maybe dnxHq will work for you? Or adobe media encoder, that comes with premiere.

I ended up using Resolve and just choosing the clips in the media pool and doing a transcode. Worked fine. Why the heck Catalyst browse can't do 4K is bizarre to me. Thanks - more questions to come though.

others like to use shotput or whatever because it make them sound pro.

The reason some of us like to use Shot Put Pro is because we can make multiple backups simultaneously with no loss of speed. For example, I backup my cards to three drives at once, and it is just as fast as doing just one drive. So Shot Put Pro speeds up my backuping process by 300%. If that makes me sound like a pro, so be it.

Troll! :-)

They just released a new version that looks like it has some nice improvements to the interface, but I have not upgraded yet. Another thing I like about it is that it will send me an email when it finishes backing up a card. I love that when I'm traveling. I can go down to the hotel restaurant or bar in the evening and then pop back up to the room to start the next card when I get the message it is done. That is great!

Im using the up grade now..there has been a couple of bug fixers already.. the report is now alot nicer and you can add 1 or 4 thumbnails to each clip report .. (there was a bug with is but now fixer).. although it does add a bit if time.. could be very useful for editors.. you can also drag and drop ,as opposed to the pre set method, and it will do the same checking, report etc.. but with out creating a separate down load folder, which V6 now does..

Morgan if I were you I would learn to use SPP.. its the defacto down loading software .. as well as the multiple destinations .. all the "higher end" productions how stipulate in their contracts that down loading must be done with SPP.. or similar.. and its for insurance purposes.. and well TBH.. yes it is more professional.. but its not really up for debate when its part of your contract .. its also good as a butt saver for yourself.. I once had some vague complaint from an edit they couldnt down load the files as they were corrupted.. but I had the report showing that every single Bit had been copied without any faults.. and of course it was just some intern who didnt know how to ingest files ..but he/she blamed me of course.. alot of this business is just covering your arse .. !

I had shot-put years ago when it first came out and wasn't so impressed - more complicate than I needed then. But that was a long time ago and I guess its time to reconsider now that 4K files are so big. Will it really download to multiple drives in the same time as it takes to do one? That's a big deal.

What about the other programs?
Looks like only Edit Ready will transcode but that's not a download tool?
Difference between Shotput , RG offload and Hedge?
Not much info on the web for RG Offload.
I don't need something designed for complicated shoots like features with proxies going all over the place. I'd rather have a simple easy and fast interface with fast downloads to multiple destinations that are checksummed.
Pro's & Cons?

Check out this app...it's cheap, but it has a ton of features. Note, especially, the ability to generate any flavor of DNxHD and ProRes. Yes, even on a Windows machine.
I have nothing to do with HDCINEMATICS.COM or Convert, except that I use it. It's a pretty fantastic tool, since it transcodes faster than any other app I know:

Not sure what version you were using of SPP.. there is a bit of a learning curve.. but its not that difficult .. if i can do it anyone can.. the new version has also a drag and drop mode.. rather than setting where you want the footage to go to in preset mode.. you just have source one side of a box and destination the other.. just drag and drop files to multiple drives or where ever else you want.. but it will do the hash check and report as the normal mode.. cant be simpler than that..

Multiple drives is a bit slower than to one.. but faster than the time it would take doing each one separately .. plus you are not having to change everything over all the time.. I dont know how people survive without this function.. its not cheap.. but you get what you pay for .. personally I really need a report to be generated and SPP one has improved alot.. even with thumbnails for each clip if you want..
