All right, am I the only one on the planet who doesn't like the Sanken COS-11 lav? It has always sounded too bright and hollow to me, almost as if I was listening to it in a room filled with reflections. Maybe that's just me...

In any case I guess I fall into the category of the Tram TR50 lovers. What interests me though is the apparent redundancy of this microphone by a couple of other companies. Someone correct me if I am wrong:

(Let's call this Category 1) The Voice Technologies VT506 and the OST 801 are equivalent to the original Tram TR50. All three of these mics have a higher frequency response (boosted) and thus slightly more appropriate if placed under clothes. (The Countryman EMW-P is an equivalent as well).

The SonotrimSL is basically a modified Tram with better bass frequency roll off and toned down mids.

(Let's call this Category 2) The Voice Technologies VT500 and the OST 802 are equivalent to the Sonotrim. (Apparently very similar to the Countryman EMW-S as well) and exhibit a slightly "richer" sound when exposed, or a slightly more muffled sound under clothing.

All of the mics here are apparently using similar capsules as well as maintaining a similarity of design.

So can anyone here highlight their experience with the differences between these mics within each category?

If in fact the differences are not discernible between the four lav's in the 1st category, or the four microphones in the 2nd category, why not just go for the cheapest (OST - Oscar Sound Tech) in each category?
