Training/Corporate/Industry Videos

I will be retiiring from the Air Force soon and would like to start a small production company to offset my retirement income (and not find a real job), while/before I shoot my first feature. I spent all morning getting 4 local businesses to agree to let me shoot them a free commerical so that I can use as a demo reel (a tamale factory, a tire company, a vet clinic, and a home builder).

I would like to do the same for training/corporate/industry videos, but do not know where to start/who or what kind of companies to approach.

What kind of training/corporate videos do you shoot and how do/did you get started? Thanks. Paul

Non-profits are a good place. We found a camp for kids with special needs and did some work for them. Not only has it looked good on our reel, but they recommend us to other people all the time. Gotten some good paid gigs out of that.

A+
Good call Jim. Even if doing work for non-profits doesn't generate new business at least you've done something good for the community.

Hard to contact them directly I find. You have to know someone on the inside that can direct you to the right person. Corporations have some many layers to peel back before you find the right contact that actually has some say in anything.

Thanks guys, great input. Doing something good from the heart/for the right reasons will always pay off in the long run. There is a Homeless Veterans Home here in Ogden (20 minutes outside of Salt Lake City), that I would love to doing something for.

If you contact your local cable company, you might be able to talk them into some free airtime for a non-profit. Then you can be known as a guy who can also get it on the air. It never hurts to get to know those guys anyway.

I'd talk to the Veterans Organization you were talkin about. I'm sure they would love for you to do something like that.
