Trailer

disjecta

Lucky Duck
So in an effort to solicit my friends to be in one of the final scenes of Being Disjecta (as yet unfilmed), I decided to put a film noir-style trailer together using the footage already edited to entice them and take the project seriously...so here it is:

http://www.pinelakefilms.com/trailer.html

I deliberately did not try to tell the story and made it really vague instead because most of my friends have not seen the film yet. Included in this trailer are some shots that didn't make it into the final edit but were some of my favorites.

Crank your speakers.

The trailer completely tongue in cheek and not meant to be perfect by a long shot.

Re: Trailer

Fun stuff. Are you a fan of Jean-Pierre Jeunet (maker of the film Amelie)? His shorts are fantastic and came to mind when I watched being disjecta.

Re: Trailer

That a really nice trailer Steven. When are we seeing part 3. ;)

Not bad, to be compare to Jean-Pierre Jeunet. :D

Re: Trailer

:'( Let me wipe the tears from my eyes and turn my frown upside down, I loved it. Its alot of fun to watch even though I already saw the short.

Re: Trailer

I guess there were many styles at the time. I was influenced by the trailers for Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep, all of which had a healthy variety of transitions :D

Re: Trailer

disjecta- Looks great! The transitions are perfect and fit the genre. If I still lived in Seattle I would sign-up to help you out! :D

You might want to provide a direct link or a "right click/save as" option on your site. Sites that embed the quicktime forget that most downloaders are impatient and will start watching before it's completed. This will cause interruptions in their viewing experience and ruin the flow of your movie. Forcing the viewer to download the entire movie makes sure they will watch the entire video, uninterrupted. It's good for the filmmaker and good for the viewer.

Re: Trailer

I get what you are saying P.K. but for 90% of users, an 8mb file is going to pretty much stream immediately. But I'll keep it in mind.

Thank you so much, I'm honored to be mentioned in the same sentence. I am a huge fan of Jeunet's and may have been inadvertently influenced by some of his work. You are not the first one to notice that.

Re: Trailer

You're an absolute genius.
Me? Well,---there's a fine line.
I'm just on the other side.
But I ask good questions.
Where did you get the music?
What NLE sytem do you use?
What about the transitions? They off the rack or special?
And that B&W look is reminicent of movies from Britain in the 50s. How'd you achieve that?
Think I'm over my question quota.
Keep using your gift.
Your stuff is thrilling to watch.
But you've heard enough to that.
Back to work!

Re: Trailer

Thank you so much everyone.

Peabody...wow, thanks, man.

Here's the answer to your questions:
Music is from a music library I'm part of: http://www.bmgmusicsearch.com/us (all of this stuff is in the Production Music Search area.

I use Premiere Pro

Transitions are off the rack from Premiere

B/W look started with a base effect from Magic Bullet, I think it's called Auto Art. I then tweaked it from there. I paid particular attention to get the contrast to look as rich as possible. Fortunately, most of the shots I used in the trailer were well-exposed to begin with so they were easier to work with in a b/w environment. But yeah, I totally get what you are saying about the British b/w vibe.

I think that's it...let me know if you have any more questions.

Re: Trailer

Great work once again! I think your trailer also shows your great timing ability. The titles, music, cuts all work well.

So, are we expecting the Maltese Duck anytime soon? ;)

Re: Trailer

Fantastic shots. Compositon is superb.

What Aspect are you using in Quicktime? Is this a croped 4:3 or 16:9 Squeeze or Anamorphic?
