Trailer To My DVX Feature

Great job, well done. IF anything the trailer could have been edited a little differently with more creative text and writing, but overall i really understood your purpose and the main plot was very good. Looked like the actors were really good as well. What kind of equipment did you use? And where can we get copies?

I thought that it had a pretty cool story and seemed pretty spooky. I'd say the only thing that really bothered me was how you switched back and forth from letterbox to full screen, what was that about?

Otherwise, looks like you could have a winning movie on your hands :)

You have no idea how much I love trailers! Justin, where are you?? [inside joke]

Anyhow, that was VERY captivating, kept my attention for sure, and great looking footage! Now let's just hope the trailer isn't the only good part (damn acting always gets in the way) ;-) But seriously, I'm looking forward to seeing some of the dialogue scenes. Good stuff, thanks for posting!

I'm DL'ing right now. Shawn, this trailer is 44mbs where my entire compressed movie was 50mbs! And more people are watching this! WTF, LOL!

well, your entire movie was actually 133MB originally, so I guess sometimes size does matter. Like I said before, some of us (including you) try to watch a lot of footage and read a lot of threads, and so if everyone posted 100+MB files, we just wouldn't have enough time and would probably pass on a lot of them... it's a time/cost/benefit thing.

maybe 44MBs is in the magical spot where people aren't resistant and maybe a 133MB is a size that most of us would watch, but only if we had seen the trailer (or sample footage) first and wanted to see more.

I like the trailer - the first half most especially, but I agree with a previous post that it looks stretched.

Pretty cool. Shots looked great. Everybody's telling me not to shoot video on my road trip movie. This looked pretty good to me.

The music was awesome until onnnnne shot. You have this serene moody serious middle eastern(?) music juxtoposed against... two girls getting it on??? It's like "take me seriously... uh, but don't". But if you took that shot out, I'd probably LOVE it.

Question: Did you only shoot exterior scenes at the beginning and end of the day? Or were you shooting with the sun above you as well? Curious how you battled the sun during your shoot.

Well done dude!

Enjoyed the trailer. You have some pretty nice scenes in there ecspecially when your incorporating and emphasizing the unique landscape.

Hi gang,

Just got back from vacation and to this board.

I appreciate the comments. The film itself was a very low budget affair that some friends of mine raised the money for but did not know how to direct/produce. I did so stepped in and did the film. It was my first attempt working with the DVX and was very impressed with it, enough so that I have already paid for my HVX!

Anyway, 80% of the film was shot with an anamorphic lens and the rest with a wide. An unforunate neccesity as the wide got "locked" onto the camera for about two days of an 8 day shoot. The guy that outputted our trailer did "squeeze" some stuff that shouldn't have been as I blew up all the 4X3 to suit the anamorphic time line. But, will do another trailer soon. I wish I had accesses to some long lens' as I feel a more shalow field of focus would have helped the ending of the film a lot.

The overhead shot was done with a telephone repair truck that had a lift. Our sound guy brought it for the shoot so used it a few times to get some production out of this extremely low budget movie. Again, it was shot in 8 days in Lancaster so was at least able to get some great landscapes out there. Most of my crew and cast (a total of about 15) were non-professionals and worked their butts off as we went along.

Considering what they put into it money wise, they will definately make their money back. I did the film as I had only directed one feature and about 5 second unit jobs so it was good experience for me as well. But, I look forward to learning the HVX and hopefully getting some great images out of it on the one I am shooting in March.

But, it was trial and error the whole way. Considering what was against us I think we came out with something that will enable us to learn from and make a few bucks.

Also, in terms of the time of day shooting...we shot at every second of the day practically. I just had to compose shots that worked with the available light. I took advantage of the last hour every day but being in the desert it was hard to avoid the harsh light sometime. There was a tiny light package used on one night shoot otherwise it was all hot desert sun.
