Trailer for our feature comedy

We just finished our feature family comedy. It was shot on a DVX100a and our budget was ten thousand dollars. We are very happy with the outcome. Thanks to everyone on this site that answered questions when we asked because we had no idea what we were doing. Next step is film festivals.

Reminds me of an old family Disney comedy. How did you manage to get that much funding for the project?

Wow Disney, thanks Loganm187. That budget was starting with nothing, we bought camera, mics, lighting, tripod, everything came out of the ten grand. I used my own money, that is how we funded the project. I think part of the production value is lost on youtube. When we burn it to a DVD it looks much better.

you honestly cant blame youtube, the acting, and props seemed too obvious - and the footage doesnt look like dvx

What are your plans for this film? Oh, it says right in your post... festivals.

What kind of mic did you use? Some of the sound almost seems like you used the mic on the camera to record... lots of echo.

First of all congratulations on finishing your feature. That's a huge task in itself.

Aside from what's already been said, you have some issues with your audio that could be fixed up without too much trouble. Some of the levels aren't quite right - for example at 17secs the dialogue is way louder than what it was previously and sticks out too much.

Also the main V.O is all panned to the right - it really should be centered.

If it's feature length, I can see a lot of that money getting eaten up by catering and other expenses. Otherwise $10k would get you a reasonable camera, light rig and sound guy.

First of all I'm not blaming anyone. I know the footage looks better on a disc and I am proud of what we have put together.

We used a octava12 mic inside and a shotgun outdoors. There was issues in the one setting with echo, I'm not sure why other then it was a big square empty room.

Thanks Chris, I will take care of the sound issue, I know I had to turn up the volume on "Summer" because her voice did not carry as well as the young mans, after watching if again I agree with you and can fix it easily.

About 2500.00 was spent on feeding crew and cast, our shoot was 32 days. I think we spent around six grand on equipment. Our DVX was used at 1200.00 but I also had to buy a computer and Vegas pro 8 for editing, (1300.00).

Its hard to believe this was shot on a dvx100. What were your settings? Maybe we can help you out for future projects. Here is a link to my demo reel from stuff I have shot with my DVX since I bought it a lil' over a year ago.

Hey Loganm187, I watched your demo and you have some really cool looking stuff on there. We plan on shooting another film next year, maybe I will get in touch with you before we do. I'm not disappointed at all with the look we got out of the camera. I wanted it to be bright and happy looking because it is a comedy for all ages. I completely understand going with a different look for an action or horror flick. Some of the scenes look blown out on Youtube but they look much better when I burn it to a disc and watch it on TV.

Wow! Thanks Carlton06, that is so cool to be compared to John Hughes.

We are just beginning to submit to festivals, so we don't have a release yet. Hopfully we will get a distributor or studio interested during a festival. If not we are alreading planing for self distribution.
