Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

I think it's a very nice trailer, dude, really makes me want to see the film.

Cinematography is good, but I really don't think it's really spectacular. I think it screams magic bullet, but the effects have very few to enhance. But the camerawork and directing seem pretty good.

The only think I really think is a mistake is the Air song. Don't take me wrong, Air is my favorite band, but that song was already composed for another movie (a very good one!) and is kinda old news. Get something new, or at least reuse something that is not that fresh. Other than that, good job!

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

First of all, this is the first trailer I've see on here that really and truly looks like a trailer for a top-notch, well acted film. Congrats. I can tell that you spent a lot of time writing and casting and rehearsing. Really nice to see.

This trailer definitely makes us hate Dan, but it might give away too much. I thought it was gonna be called "Waiting for Dan", if you know what I mean.

As soon as I saw the first shot, I was holding my breath for some music. You pulled through with a great cue to begin with, but it gets old fast. I wouldn't toss it out completely, just switch tracks once you start to see that Dan doesn't show.

Also, I started off really wanting to see this, but I kind of feel like I know what's going to happen. The critical acclaim is a great idea, because as a corporate tool and a copy cat, now I too want to experience a film with a soul that will haunt me from the very first frame.

I did notice the magic bullet, but it didn't bother me. I think we're all too familliar with it here, so that's why it sticks out, but it'd be nice to see in a feature.

All in all, I want to buy the DVD NOW. How?

thanks for the feedback, guys. i actually work for the company that cuts most of the trailers you see in theaters. our biggest claim to fame is all the previews for the lord of the rings films. anyway, just curious what you think is going to happen? i'd like to compare that to what i know of the direction the film actually takes. anyway, just curious...

oh, and my color timer didn't use magic bullet. went with digital film lab.

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

I don't want to guess because I don't want you to tell me! I want to see it still, but let's just say that the trailer doesn't make me want to run out and see the film NOW. Maybe I'd push it down on the list of things to see soon, or maybe rent. In other words, I'm not totally stumped and biting my nails. Like I said jokingly, (corporate tool) you're advertising to people who need to be teased. I'm arrogant enough to think that I have an idea of what it's about, and by that, I determine how necessary it is for me to see the film...Just food for thought. And I love and respect the fact that your group is not driven by commercial success. So you can cut whatever kind of trailer you want to.

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

cool, i understand. truthfully, we were targetting our key demographic with the trailer -- professional women working in LA (the only ones that can go to this upcoming screening) over 25 years of age. not trying to justify anything, just letting you in on the thought process behind it.

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

This is by far one of the more engaging pieces of work I have seen submitted here; ever.

The trailer is so well put together; professional and about what you'd expect to see at the theatre.  The talent is first rate; I believed every line in this.  The choice of music is wonderful.

I want to see this.   If it's as good as it appears; you have a winner here.   Very inspiring; and that's just the trailer.

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

I thought it was pretty well put together, but I don't think I would go out and see it. maybe i don't count cuz I'm not that "professional" ( ahahha)
but I didn't feel like I would respond much to any of the characters..though the acting was good.

the only person I felt for was the "other guy", I guess

and of course some for the birthday girl...but not enough to get me out there.

It did have a very strong start and lost it 3/4 when I couldn't grab on to any reason why I'd want to see more.

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

One thing I would add is that it feels a bit long for a trailer; less is more.

thanks to everyone for your valuable feedback. it is highly appreciated.

this trailer does not tell the whole story. it focuses on the more mainstream aspects due the the audience (distributors and investors, not filmmakers) we are trying to gather for our December 16th screening. in actuality the film is more of an exploration into the spiritual dimension of desire and its damaging effects on our lives.

here is the LA Weekly review...

at what point exactly? what sort of thing was missing? or rather, what would you have liked to see that would make you go see it?

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

From the trailer I'd go see the film. Well, put together. Shows what can be done with the camera. With a great script, good actors and production value we can make films within a budget that we can all come up with.

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

This trailer makes me proud to own the DVX100. I thought the lighting and colors were brilliant, well done. A very nice image.

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

Looks great. That zoom shot on the lady while she looks at her birthday cake looks amazing. Whos the Cinematographer?

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

Finally! A trailer with actors who don't suck! Looking forward to seeing the whole thing!

PM me if you want a reply. I will give it another look, but I'm not up for doing it if I'm not sure you'll be checking back, I'm sure you understand. :)

I'll add though, I am no genius at this stuff, I did find it funny though, I wasn't really thinking about the shots, color, etc. much but that is not what gets me to watch a film.  perhaps I haven't been indoctrinated by this site yet.

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

Looks good. Especially since you said alot of it was improvised. Good actors make such a dif.

Re: Trailer for feature shot on DVX100

Great trailer...I agree less is more. I'll still go see it..or rent it..where ever it end up.

Hey the girl that was say to the guy "You like her don't you" is that Maxine Bohns..Ed Burns old girlfriend that he had in some of his early films "Brothers McMullen"? Sure as heck looked like her.

no, her name is Laura Laurent. if you're familiar with the band Bright Eyes, they wrote a song about her.
