Trading admission for footage

Has this ever happened to anyone? Some my friends who do video work are sometimes approached with free admission to do coverage for special events. In exchange for permission to cover these events the promoters want some footage, while my friends can keep the rest.
They always turn it down. Even if it means not being able to film the event. I have to agree with that. Even if we are talking about b roll, a filmmaker's work should be paid for.

How much is the admission charge on average?
It depends. Sometimes it is 25 bucks or the event is free. But the cameraman allowed to get more coverage. One of my friends was doing a short on hip hop and was looking to get footage of hip hop dancers. One group was like sure but they wanted a copy of all the raw footage for their own use. He turned them down.

What good is admission when you have to spend all your time working and not enjoying the show?

What?! Do the people at Six Flags have to pay admission to get into the park to work it? No. They get in, and get paid for their work. And that takes less talent than videoing an event. That's crazy.
