Hi I am shooting ski videos and want to shoot using my hvx200 and get cool tracking shots. I have seen some footage of this and it is really great. I am not sure what equipment I need or how to set it up. Ideally light wieght setup consisting of wire I can connect to trees/rocks and send the camera down/ across hill to get a smooth moving shot rather than just a common tripod shot.

Thanks

You will need to be very stable as you can induce wobble on the HV20 if care is not taken.

You can also get major skew.

Best thing is to try it out and see what you come up with.

Check out a snowboard film called "Elekrep". They have a TON of cable cam shots in there, using a fixed camera with a cable rig. They use it a ton in urban situations, hitting rails and stuff. very cool shots. The key to stabilizing the camera is have as much weight as possible, as low as you can get it.

Wrong camera, vinski said he's using a HVX200.

Ba careful too .. especially if you have tightly strung cables across ski-slopes (use a closed slope, obviously) at any sort of heights where someone could hit them. Be sure to mark the cable (or ground around it) clearly where possible. No need to describe the potential for accidents there.

Search for "cable cam" and you should find some good posts on similar setups here on 'user - especially in the DIY section.
