I have both a GH5 and a Panasonic GX8. On the GX8, I can use the eyepiece EVF and touch the display to move the focus box around. On the GH5, when I used the EVF, the display screen went dead and I couldn't use it until I pulled away from the EVF. This was super frustrating, so I rattled around in the GH5's menus until I found the setting.
If you want to use the EVF on your GH5 and have the ability to move the focus point around using the display screen, here's what you do:
1. Go into the menu and select the wrench with the little "C" next to it.
2. Select "Operation" ==> "Touch Settings".
3. Scroll down to "Touch Pad AF" and hit the menu button to enter.
4. In the "Touch Pad AF" menu, select "Exact".
Now back out of the menu and test that you can use the EVF while moving the focus point around on the screen with a finger. That's what did it for me.
Hope this helps!
