I was on my way for a job in Miami with my Epic, when on the way I decided to stop at a pier in Dania Beach.
I drug my gear out to the pier, which was under very windy conditions, hence why the Kite boarders were having a great day. Now, nothing matches lenswise between the 2 cameras. On my Epic I only had my 17-50 RPZ and for the GH4 I had a Rokinon 24mm and the Lumix 14-140.
So, take it with a grain of salt. Later that evening I put this little clip together at my hotel room with my Macbook air and Final Cut X and did a very slight color correction/matching, and uploaded in 4K to Youtube.
The GH4 is definitely "sharper" but the Epic seems a lot more "filmic". This is all very subjective, but goes to show that the GH4 is an excellent camera. But then when you realize that 30fps is the slowest you can go on the GH4, the high speed options of the Epic are very welcome indeed.
I feel like the GH4 is a little more "video'ey" much like Sony cameras, and the Epic and Alexa have a more "film'ey" look.
Now one thing that surprised me the most was the usability of the GH4's viewfinder. I was having a little hard time seeing the shot with the screen, when I decided to peek through the VF. I was blown away with the picture quality! all you see in this clip is handheld, so a little shaking from the high winds was unavoidable.
Again, very unscientific comparison, kind of Apples to Oranges...
