I saw "The Visitors" when it came to the US. It made me realize that the French and Americans have vastly different senses of humor. :)

That's true that we don't have the same sense of humor but don't stop on the US version of Les Visiteurs because it's really different from the French version. they don't have the same names first. the US names are not funny at all. and above all I can"t understand why they ahve shot such a film for the US since we don't have the same History and backgrounds. For us, if it could really happen...., seeing people from Middle Ages in the 20th century would be "quite" normal but not in the US since you don't have Middle Ages era. I really think the US version of this movie is just stupid.

Top, in no order:

"Dirty Rotten Scoundrels"
"The Man With Two Brains"
"Austin Powers - International Man of Mystery"

for special recognition:
"Wayne's World"
"The Life Of Brian"
"Something About Mary"

also ran:
"Titanic" - "one should always have conflict- an iceberg against an unsinkeable ship? Where's the sex in that?"
"It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" - well, my Dad likes it
"Those Magnificent Men" - I liked it when I was 10

Lots of runners up like the original Fletch, The God's Must Be Crazy, etc. So many runners up that I have to add a couple of ties to my top three.

3. A tie between... A Christmas Story and Strange Brew

2. A tie between... Better Off Dead and Napoleon Dynamite

1. Monty Python's Holy Grail

I know Better Off Dead is low budget stupidity, but everything still works for me. I even laugh at all the bad filmmaking (snow changing in the middle of scenes, stupid animations, bad cuts, etc.) I can't believe no one has mentioned Strange Brew or Napoleon.

I can't list just three so here we go:

Leolo
Raising Arizona
The Odd Couple
Trainspotting
The Apartment
The Out-of-Towners (Jack Lemon of course, not the horrid remake)
The Nutty Professor (Jerry Lewis)
The Graduate
Tootsie
Office Space
Fargo
Lost in America
Christmas Vacation
National Lampoon's Vacation
Planes,Trains, & Automobiles
What's Up Doc?
A Fish Called Wanda
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
There's Something About Mary
Animal House

I just don't buy "Some Like it Hot." I find it amusing, but there aren't many laugh-out-loud moments or great quotables . . . and I love 1950s Danny Kaye movies, so it's not a generational thing, either . . .

OMG... No one mentioned ....

"The Jerk" - my favorite comedy

the other two could go to several worthy films, but today I go with "The Big Lebowski" and "Rushmore"... tempted to go Woody Allen but would have to much trouble choosing between "Love and Death", "Take the Money and Run" and "Annie Hall".

There are so many great comedies. I stand by my choices but it is difficult and somewhat fluid for me. Kind of depends how I feel at the time. I know Some Like It Hot is at or near the top of the "official Hollywood" lists but I gotta argree with David on this one.

Ghostbusters
Young Frankenstein
Caddyshack
Chicken Run
Shakepeare In Love
American Graffiti
A Fish Called Wanda
The Princess Bride
Animal House
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Airplane!

All top rate in my book.

QUOTE]

THE JERK...I'm with ya there. I don't need any of this stuff, well maybe this chair, but that's all, this chair, but nothing else. Well maybe this paddle ball, but that's all. This chair, this paddle ball, but nothing else. I don't need anything else. Well maybe this lamp, but that's all. This chair, this paddle ball, and this lamp, but nothing else. on and on and on...Hilarious.

ANYTHING FOR LOVE (Charles Grodin) I laughed my @ss off when I saw this and havn't seen it since, so maybe I was just in a silly mood. Anyone else see this flick?

LITTLE BIG MAN (Dustin Haufman) Great movie. It drags on a bit, but it's hilarious. If you havn't seen it I highly reccomend.

I don't know about movies but top three commedic scenes:

1. Nothing to Lose - Robbins lights he feet on fire and then walks into a gas station and the cashier see's his smoking feet and says 'you must be really fast'

2. The pissing scene from The Naked Gun

3. True Romance - The whole Walken / Hopper interaction. Disturbing to the point that you can't do anything but laugh.
