Top Three Comedies Of All Time...

Dr. Strangelove has been listed several times - great flick.

Actually one of my favorite contemporary funny movies is
Scary Movie 3

that's right I said it ... but "3" mind you not "1", or "2" ...

why ?

well David Zucker (you know Kentucky Fried Movie, Airplane, Top Secret, Naked Gun 33 1/3) took over the franchise so the Wayans bros. could make white chicks.

Unlike Mel Brooks, whose recent movies are poo -- Zucker still has it. Either you've seen it and you agree probably, or you wrote it off as a dumb flick in a dumb franchise ... but gone are the 20 foot geizers of semen with the Wayans bros., and in are the confused puns, takes to the camera, sillyness, and spot on pitch perfect timing gag after gag throuught the ensemble, and the scary movie chick is actually does a great job with the Zucker /airplane style.

Anyway it's good but I think most people run the other way from it in the video aisle because of the rest of the franchise - but I enjoyed it as much as Naked Gun - yep.

As long as Bill Murray is in the list you're good.

I love Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein but History is totally lost on me... I wouldn't put them in the same category at all.

I wouldn't put it in the top 3... but if you want to talk VINTAGE and cutting edge for it's day... then see if you can find a movie called "Hellzapoppin"... this movie is from the 40's or 50's... and it laid the foundation for movies like Airplane DECADES before anybody else considered doing stuff like that! They have guys run off set and the camera follows them all the way past the crew and director... then the scene continues on the director talking to somebody in a BTS style shot... it's very cutting edge for the day. It's even got SHEMP in it as a non-3 Stooges character! What more do you want?

one of the things I love about stripes is that the beginning is so dark and the characters are so real -- the cab ride with the snobby lady where he throws the keys off the bridge is pretty tense, and there's some real tension with Seargeant Hulka? (can't believe I remember that) which I think all serves the funny, cuz it sort of sets up a real need for the characters to find humor.

Never happen in an Adam Sandler movie. (excpet for punchdrunk love wich is different kettle of fish)
