Yeah Im sure if Juju has video reviews we'll hear a lot of "yez magnifique piece of glass" that fits nicely into the "Letu, la meilleur adapteur!" C'est pas évident? ;)

Ryan... if you're talking about the Bloom following. It is fantastic. The man is a rock star around here. Nothing gets purchased without going through the Bloom grinder. A company spends months on R&D and one word from Bloom and hundreds of people are out of a job. That's how the Letus became the Lettuce. That's how Adapters became Adatas. And that's how a lens became a great piece of glass, a prime lens a really great piece of glass, and a 35mm adaptor a great great piece of glass, and a 10,000 Euro fuji lens a Fantastic piece of glass.
Now if you don't like Philip... put a sock in it.

Thank you. :)

Hmmm. I've just never heard of him besides a few short 35mm adapter shorts, 'tests', and that video which was recently uploaded where he is talking at a dinner table with other peoples from the Chicago area.

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic or serious. Anyway, I'm sure he is a good and knowledgeable guy, he seems to be. I just meant that I didn't know he was so influential in the prosumer arena, especially the way you describe. I don't dislike the guy.... because I hardly know who he is, I just didn't realize he had 'people'. I wish I had 'people'. :)

If I were doing a review I would definitely try to throw in as much Bloom linguo as possible. Now there are two ways of talking: The amateur way and the Bloom way. Listen and learn:

Don't say: "Lens"
Instead say: "Piece of Glass"

The Bloom way has its own code. You can qualify the piece of glass (ie: lens) with specific adjectives. This is a precise science so please pay attention. Using the wrong adjective will destroy your credibility in the video community.

Here is the guide:

Regular camera manufacturer lens...................GREAT piece of glass.
Nikon or Canon prime lenses............................GREAT GREAT piece of glass.
PL Mounted lens (Zeiss)....................................MARVELOUS piece of glass.
Fuji lens with a 1000+ pricetag.........................WONDERFUL piece of glass.
Panavision or any top of the line lens...............FANTASTIC piece of glass.

Please note any lens used with a 35 adaptor will automatically gain a ratings level. For example, a Fuji 1000+ pricetag lens will go from WONDERFUL to FANTASTIC. Therefore when one says I have a Fantastic Fuji lens it means the lens is used with an adaptor.

Also note, any lens which costs more than the camera it is mounted on receives automatically the FANTASTIC rating. It is theory possible to turn a simple 50mm Nikon lens into a FANTASTIC piece of glass by mounting it on a bottom line camcorder using a Letus. Please note in such a case the lens must exceed in value the purchase price of the Camera and the Letus should not be counted in the total camera price.

Once you master the adjectives to describe your "piece of glass" you will be understood by anybody. Just stick to the rules.

Dude, I think you've got a fixation. Are you feelings for Mr. Bloom more than professional?
Does the Brian Eno at the head of his EX3 review make you melt?

Firstly, Eno is god. No arguments.

Secondly here is my response to this thread....

Please delete as appropriate depending on how you see me...

Am flattered/ pissed off that this thread exists.

It is utterly hilarious/ deeply offensive.

I will send you a signed photograph if you send me your address/ will send you a letter bomb if you send me your address.

I think if anyone takes my word as gospel then you are very clever/ i think if anyone takes my word as gospel then you are a muppet!

You want to shoot great pictures, screw adaptors, just hire me/ you want to shoot great pictures, keep practicing!

The Letus Ultimate is my favourite adaptor/ The Letus Ultimate is my favourite adaptor.

I hope this clears things up/ makes you even more confused.

Happy shooting fans/ F*** off you b*******

:-)

By the way have two more on camera reviews to post at the weekend, using some real high quality glass and the wicked Letus. I hope I don't let you down in my catchphrases.

If interest is there I could bring out a "Bloom in your pocket" toy. It would have six of my most common phrases available whenever you need inspiration. Just press a button and you get a nugget of wisdom or utter shi* depending on your view! :)

I'm emailing you my credit card info now! (I've always like Phillips personality. Great guy!)

if you can make it an iphone application, i'll buy it!

No he's not sponsored by them, but he's good friends with Hien and everyone over at Letus. He owns more than 10 35mm adapters and has plenty of experience so if he says an adapter flies... it really flies. Like a flying horse!

I'm sorry if this is an offensive or ignorant question but is Bloom sponsored by Letus?

I am sponsored by my people. :)

But a serious answer? I have a great relationship with the Lettuce team, as I do with many manufacturers. Am fortunate enough to have no dependents and spend all my hard earned dosh on buying bucket loads of toys. It also works very nicely for my tax return!

I would like to think I am impartial enough to tell it how it is. Like everyone, sometimes I get it wrong. But I would never knowingly put my name to anything unless I truly thought it was the dogs boll****

One manufacturer asked to exclusively sponsor me and I turned them down as would mean impartiality out the window. I have cultivated relationship with many manufacturers, first off by being a good customer with them and then by being very vocal if I like the product.

With places like this, DVinfo, my own website etc you are only as good as your reputation. If you are pushing rubbish you will be found out and your opinion then becomes worthless. I try to be as fair as possible and hope most of you will think that of me. I enjoy sharing information, because when I started out there was nothing like this. God how I wish there was! In fact when I was your age this was all fields! :)

These forums are a gold mine of information and also full of crap. You have to take everything with a pinch of salt as everyone has different opinions for whatever reason. I worked with someone for first time this week, who is a devoted HVX/ Brevis user. I respect his love of his gear because it is great. Just because if you asked me what would I recommend it wouldn't be that combo doesn't mean I think anything less of the it or the guy. He went down one route, I went down that route, realised it wasn't for me and took a different turning.

The most important thing I stress EVERY DAY is there is only one way to get better, no matter what gear you have, just keep shooting. You get better every day. Been doing this 20 years now, am still learning every day.

Time for me to retire to bed. I bid you all a fond goodnight! (apart from the other lot, hope you have nightmares about back focus, crappy white balancing and corrupted media!) ;)

Now I'm not saying the first Bloom response isn't good. It is still a great response. However the third response is really a major step up. The third response is everything the first response should have been. What's great about the third response is that you have this absolutely fantastic introduction, readily available smileys which you would only expect from a professional posts costing thousands more, and this great interchangeable logo. All this for barely more than the first post. It is the all in one solution for this thread and I recommend it you read it. I spend all week reading it through this great piece of glass and I love it.

Philip, you're a legend. :)

philip, could you briefly summarize for us what has been the best source of information for you? (peers, forums, books, experience, etc) you HAVE to pick one. ;)

Both true.....lots of different ways to go regarding equipment and the more choice we have and impartial viewpoints....the more informed the choice.

Also if we knew everything the things would become routine and boring.....better to change and grow.

Eh Juju, having fun? Don't know if you are being Sarcastic or Serious... but in any case, let me give you a tip. When it comes to jokes, the shortest are the best. Ceci est aussi vrai pour la France.

Philip bloom has been making tons of test, spent his own cash to do so and reported his comments to people that may not have the opportunity or time to do all those test.

You have the right to express yourself, but by doing so you should also consider the people that appreciate what he does and wouldn't want to see him pissed off and therefore do his stuff and not share it with us anymore

Anyway I've personally learned a lot from his bogs, I met him for the first time at earl's court 4 days ago. he's a nice chap that just delivers his personal opinion. I we say, you take it or leave it... your choice.
