F55: Took the 55 out for the scout

Shooting a job with the 55 next week, but decided I'd take it along for the scout just because I can.

Also wanted to know what I can get away with at night, etc. Everything here was 1250 with Red 18-50 T3. XAVC 1080p, S-Log2, S-Gamut. over cranked to 60fps.

As per my usual MO, everything here is processed with ACES on in Resolve. I dunno about you, but I love it. I love how it renders highlight, I love how it renders colors. The camera is 90% there on it's own, but turning on ACES just straightens out some not-as-attractive color rendering.

And for a straighter look, here is all grades turned off, but ACES left applied.

Lovely stuff as always Nate.

I just worked on my first shoot with the F55 over the weekend (shooting HD XAVC) and apart from a couple of baffling operational design choices, I was really impressed by what I saw. From my initial look into F55 footage I couldn't see much discernable difference between the look and dynamic range of the new cameras and the F3, there just didn't seem to be much in it. But after shooting in some pretty extreme contrast situations the last two days, I think I understand the improvements better - The new camera may only have half a stop more dynamic range in total than the F3, but it's got at least 1-1.5 stops more of its DR allocated to the highlights (which is where it really matters).

And the speed and ease of shooting off-speed and dialling in white balance is a real delight.
