Too much noise in image

Hi guys,
I just started using my dvx to shoot some nice Autumn footage. I decided to just take some basic footage. So I used the Scene File 5: The 24p mode. I did however set the Color Temp at -7 so I could get a warmer look. When I brought my footage home and hooked it up to my tv, I noticed that there was a lot of noise in certain shots. Could anybody out there give me some tips? I just want some good basic settings for my footage. So I could mess around with it in post. Thanks.

Color Temp -7 seems a little extreme. If you do that, also make sure you are correctly manually white balancing your scene. Correct white balance, exposure, etc. will give you a nicer image, and you might not notice the noise as much.

The basic way to combat noise is this... in the scene file menu, Turn Detail down (goes down to -7), and turn Coring up (up to +7). Adjust these to taste. Not only will there be less noise, you will get a much more smoother, less-video image.

Bear in the mind, the DVX will always have some noise, perhaps more than many other cameras. You may see it during editing, but if you shoot well and use those tips, you probably won't notice it on playback.

pretty much any manipulation of the signal will create noise and degrade the image. a color temp change tp -7 is extreme for the chips. not only does the camera have to oost gain in the r g b channels to white balance, it also has to compensate and boost the the channels to warm up the imae considerably.

if you do the warming in post, you will have less noise.

midknight, is knight your last name.

Thanx guys. I've been doing some tests with it lately as I'm going to try and shoot a micro budget feature next year. I've really noticed the noise in darker shots even without gain. I'm figuring out that a well lit shot is the dvx's best friend.

And no, Knight is not my last name. Just tryin' to sound cool, lol.:Drogar-Dolar(DBG):
