FS7: too many audio tracks

I know this is an old question that's probably been answered, but I don't recall the answer.
I'm editing in FCP 7 ( I know its old) .
I'm transcoding my XAVC files to Pro Res 422 then importing to FCP7 but it always comes in with all of those worthless 8 tracks of audio. Is there any way to bring them into a sequence with only A1 & A2?

Hey Leni,

I'm pretty sure there is a way to directly modify/interpret the number of audio channels associated with a master clip, but having moved over to Premiere CC, I can't seem to find it. I might possibly be reverse-idealising the software though! I would suggest asking on Creative Cow, there are a lot of dyed-in-the-wool FCP7 editors still active on there.

In the meantime, I did find a solution whilst searching for the 'proper' method. It might not always fit your workflow, but it is simple and effective. If you create an empty sequence, then use the 'delete track' function to leave only as many audio channels as you want (say, 2), then when you drag+drop a clip from the browser to the T/L, FCP will automatically pare down the audio to 'fit' into those remaining tracks.

Hopefully that might help,

jason

P.S. Can't for the life of me understand why Sony used the default 8-tracks for the XAVC format. I'm sure it's a trivial metadata change to record only the active audio tracks! Joya. ;-)

Premiere CC Project Panel >> select clip(s) >> right click >> Modify >>> Audio Channels >> Number of Audio Tracks (select the number you want)
