What does "43-stone" mean?

That page is full of weirdness. For example:

LOL... There's that weird British measurement of weight again. I tried to tell people when I returned from the Isle Of Mann a few years ago that my British friends asked me how many "stone" I was... Nobody believed me.. not even Brits online!

WTF? You guys measure your weight with frikkin ROCKS? hehe
 
Well.... a "pound" is a unit of sterling, so why not say Kilo? I understand not wanting to be called 185 quid, or 185 dollars.... So, why stones?
