Hi Guys, has anyone had experience with the Tolis BRU suite of .app on OSX (& others) used to perform data object archiving to data tape drives and automated tape libraries?
I am VERY interested in their new but unreleased "Producers Edition" at http://www.tolisgroup.com/products/macosx/pe/index.html.
The idea is to ARCHIVE P2 or FCP or any objects from my disk storage subsystem (now at 9TB when my DROBO arrives soon) to an Ultrium LTO4 tape SAS i/f tape drive in two instances (on two separate tape volumes [multi filed]).
The Tolis BRU suite for single user is reasonable priced compared to the old standby backup apps from Veritas (EMC), Retrospect (EMC) and the bunch that MIGHT run on OSX.
I need something as my trust and loyalty to Le Cie disks storage components has diminished sharply completely due to yet ANOTHER loss of a 1TB FW800 external disk due to a crappy power supply [I guess I was bitten by disk ERU again!] . I lost 640GB on this baby over the weekend.. no luck with DATA RESCUE II, or TTP4 [with safety on] ) grrrr! - sadly all hopeless recoveries after 18 hours of Datarescue II for example (sigh!) .
Too much spinning disk is very risky I think these days , especially with new contemporary media formats like our PAnasonic P2 and he newer stuff form RED etc etc. Bundles exist for Utrium 4 tape drive+SAS HBA + media for $USD2600 or less.. so this looks very interesting. I'd hope HP or QUANTUM or IBM or SUN or someone develops a 5TB data tape drive for under $USD8000 and I think the'd be rich! lol.
