In our newest video, we wanted to showcase the city Tokyo. This city is a mix of beautiful contrasts - a modernism steeped in ancient tradition. We wanted to highlight that stark beauty.

We also filmed nearby Mount Fuji and the Nikko world-heritage shrines. As we visited during the New Year, we were lucky to capture the annual opening ceremonies of Sumo ("dezuiri") and archery ("yumi hajime"), as well as the first shrine visit of the year ("hatsumode").
We shot on the Canon 5D2 with the Nikon 24mm f/1.4G lens, mounted on a glidecam HD-2000. For about half the shots, we used the new Sony A65 with lenses Zeiss 24mm f/2 and Zeiss 85mm f/1.4. Most timelapses were done on the Canon 5Dii in RAW, processed in Lightroom, and compiled in After Effects. For golden-hour sequences, we'd process the images differently at bracketed exposures and blended the final results. The A65 was also surprisingly competent in timelapse, as we filmed the opening Mt Fuji lapse for 10-20 minutes and sped up in post. The final sequence was cut in Premiere.
