Tokina 28-70 f2.8 AT-X PRO SV Test Video

I have the manual Nikon version with the Aperture and constant 2.8 F stop. Thank goodness I scooped it up when i could!

Resolution is a matter on those old Tokina lenses....Sometimes you get what you pay for...Try to avoid them.

If you want a good Tokina medium zoom try the AT-X 28-80mm . Is the only one that uses SD glass on front element and aspherical elements as well in order to eliminate CA.

It costs the same or a few $ more but it's a really good lens . I had tested all of them and the only one that I would keep was the 28-80mm.

Alternative solution but more expensive is the latest Sigma 24-70mm.

According to a number of websites, only the 2nd and 3rd versions of the Tokina used the Angenieux formula. And yes they're rare. Actually a better build than the original angenieux... Like the Zeiss 100mm Makro, the design is derived from a proven motion picture lens design... There are a couple on ebay right now. Look for the 77mm filter threaded version. More info here:

I would love to see a comparative (shoot-off) between that Tokina and the Nikkor 28-70 f2.8..

I think that LoganMackay pipped me for that Tokina on Ebay !!!

(BTW...I have missed out on 2 of them. ..but as I have the Nikkor 28-70 I am not really complaining)

The SV version is the worst one of the bunch and is considered not a good lens for video use at all. The one you want is the first and second gen, they were built with the same as augenux.

Now with that said, that SV looked very very soft, and would not look well on a 1080p camera nor a scarlet or epic... That looked like an SD camera blown up rather than HD. Sharpness is important, you can always add filters to get softness but you can never gain sharpness.
