tokina 11-16mm v Lumix 7-14mm

The 7-14 is a small lens and would be awkward in a traditional matte box. I tried it the other day while I was working on a hand held rig and couldn't get the matte box close enough to the front of the lens. The base plate was to far forward but had to be to balance the rig. This isn't to say it's impossible but I gave up.
Oh and I love that fricken lens!

Just checked the lens at 7mm, using a standard 4 X 4 Tiffen, and some 3 X 3 resin as well. Even the Tiffen had to basically touch the lens hood to cover the frame, and though it was possible to position the soft cut throughout a useful range of the frame, again, the filter was touching the hood. Even backing it away a few millimeters, when barely off center, showed the edges of the filter. Given what Erik said, something other than a standard matte box would have to be used to hold a 4 X 4 filter.

I'm going for it. Even if I have to shoot @ 7.5 or 8mm I think it would be worth it to have the grad when needed in my wide Chrosziel matte box.

Thanks to MK and Barry for the info and advice, and especially 'Fricken Naso'.

I already have the 14mm Lumix pancake but I'm thinking of getting a relatively fast and wide zoom.

I'm liking the look of the Tokina 11-16mm but the range of the zoom doesn't seem that massive and the 14mm pancake I already have is the same speed and it sits right in the middle of this range.

The Lumix wide zoom is twice as expensive. Is it really that awesome?
