Tokina 11-16 Nikon or Canon mount

I'm thinking about getting this lens for the AF-100. I don't have a crop sensor HD Canon DSLR only the original 5D no video version so this lens will be just for the AF-100. Its unfortunate Tokina didn't make this with manual iris control so its going to be used with an adapter. I have the Kipton and it works well don't have a Nikon "G" adapter with iris knob. That one is pricey. So I'm leaning toward the Canon since I already have a adapter that will get me by until Birger releases theirs. Whatcha think?

Our Adaptimax 4/3 adapters are "pricey" but you get what you pay for. Stick it on our Adaptimax Nikon to 4/3 and it will be nice and safe with full aperture control. PLus a 12 month guarentee.

Cheers

So your adapter is $427.00 US dollars? If so the Birger with electronic control for $700 might be worth it.

The Adaptimax Plus to Micro 4/3 is $399 and the Adaptimax Nikon orginal to Micro 4/3 is $389. We are currently working on a Canon EF to Micro 4/3 with built in iris control. This will be considerably less than the Birger adapter but will be completely manual.

Our adapters are manufactured by us here in the UK to the highest specifications and each adapter is hand finished. You won't find a better quality adapter. So no they are not cheap but you get what you pay for. Professional cameramen like professional gear.

Since changing the aperture requires power, will your adapter also be able to run IS? I'm also assuming that focus will be manual as well.

Any idea on when this might be released, approx?

We are a few months away as we are currently working on the Nikon to F3 adapter at the moment. Once that is out of the way we will be onto the Canon EF to Micro 4/3 with iris control. Control of the iris will be manual. There will be no electronics. The adapter will have a built in 16 blade iris diaphragm. Price TBC.

We have a great Canon to Micro 4/3 adapter out right now, whch can be purchased directly from us or B&H. You will need a Canon EOS to change lens aperture setting.

We certainly know it will a lot better than Kipon!

You are right of course that the iris diaphragm will not be in its optimal point but we can certainly improve on what is currently available at a very fair price point for those not wanting to spend $700 on Birgers adapter, which I am sure will be very good. We haven't yet got to prototype yet and we will be talking late spring/early summer before we will be ready to launch.

My opinion is once you spend $400 you might as well spend $700 to get it right.

I'm pretty much with you, though I'd word it ...to get all the bells and whistles. $300 more for IS, electronic aperture, electronic focus, and maybe lens metadata would be money very well spent.

Agreed. I have Kipon and wouldn't be interested in anything similar as far as dumb adapters are concerned.

I have a voitlander mount to put my Nikon Nikkors on my AF100. You're telling me I can't use the Tokina 11-16 on that adapter? I'm a little confused...what kind of mount is it and what adapter do I specifically need?

Well I have the F-Mount for my other Nikkors but I'm seeing the Tokina won't allow me to stop down to open up...it'll be stuck at F2.8. That's unacceptable and the adapters I see are crazy expensive which is disappointing. :/

The first company to bring a simple electronic iris and perhaps power the IS for canon lenses is going to rake it in. The birger sounds great, but its obviously a very complex device based on the delays... Adaptimax should skip the 16 blade iris and move to an electronic mount with simple iris control and perhaps power the IS...may not be a simple engineering task but would probably in the long run pay off better than a "better" kipon.
