To those who own the ZOOM F4...

To those who own the ZOOM F4; does the front plate have what appear to be scratches, between the knobs and buttons -- which almost look as if they could be defects in the plastic -- or have we been sold a unit that may have been used?

I can see marks from [MENU] to 9 o'clock knob 1, 6 o'clock knob 1 to 9 o'clock knob 2, 3 o'clock knob 1 to 9 o'clock knob 2, 3 o'clock knob 2 to 9 o'clock knob 3, 3 o'clock knob 3 to 9 o'clock knob 4, [option button] to [output button].
My thought is any marks I'm seeing are virtually insignificant on the recorder but if they were on the plastic mouldings of a BMW or Merc, I might not be happy but on a Hyundai or KIA car it would be regarded as standard.

Seriously? Give it a couple of days of typical use and it'll look far worse than that! I tend to agree that it's moulding marks where the cooling takes place, but on a small product, these things are really common. Expensive metal, with powdercoat, then I'd complain I guess but on plastic, at this price? Move on swiftly and wait till you drop it and then curse - like my American Standard 5 string bass. Popped on the strap, spun around and whacked it into a scaff tube and put a huge ding on the headstock, 30 seconds after first holding it. Now THAT is annoying.

I agree with Paul. I can't really see much of anything, but it is likely the marks from how the plastic flowed and cooled in the mold.

Yep I also agree.... My purchase of the F4 was for a recorder that will pay for itself in just a couple of jobs if I get a year out of it it will be making good money for the investment.
Long gone are the days of anything lasting like Nagra's and similar gear.....

Appreciate the photos, Oz! Looks like our unit has marks in the same places as yours, including marks at 1 o'clock from the Selection knob, 5 o'clock from the Headphone knob, bottom right corner of the Output button, 5 o'clock from the Input LED between the Output and Input button, and 5 o'clock from the Slate Tone LED between the Input and Slate Tone button, to name a few. Does yours have these also?

I know it seems ridiculous, but just wasn't sure if it was an inherent (albeit superficial) defect of the F4, or if we'd received a used unit, hence the queries.

Yep got those marks as well.... exactly as described.
Don't worry just use it and make some $$$$ with it.... Im amazed at what it can do for the price, probably going to buy another one very soon as I have a couple of double bookings coming up.

Reminds me of my dad buying me a new ice hockey ball and me swiftly cracking a basement door's window with it about half an hour later. The catch was that it wasn't our basement and the ball was gone for good, with the emotional scars staying with me forever. I was six.

PS. I presume Dave Draper from Surrey, UK isn't the famous Blond Bomber.

Thanks for clearing that up. Will do.
