Im a novice ready to buy my first 35mm adaptor. Ive decided the Letus line is best for my budget..........probably the economy model unless most suggest the extreme over the economy model. The econ model would leave some bucks for lenses..........which brings me to my question.

Ive had some photography experience with NiKon bayonet mounted lenses and would like to stay with the Nikon line. Would a 50mm and a 28mm be the two "first" lenses you would suggest?

Will the Nikon adapter that is shipped with the Letus, allow "normal" photographic lenses to be used such as the standard 50mm and 28mm bayonet type? I noticed on the B&H site that their 50mm lense is "auto-focus"??........I dont need autofocuse............or do I?

Is the Letus Econ model, with the exception of plastic construction, about the same as the extreme model?

Oh...one more question......which lense is used to control fstop settings, both,, or do you leave the lense on the adaptor wide-open?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I don't think you are quite there yet with regards to buying an adapter.

First off the Brevis doesn't have different models. The Letus does, which is what I assume you are talking about. Spend some time reading through these forums. There is a lot of good info here.

haha............well it was EARLY in the morning...I meant Letus or Lettuce what ever.

For your lenses - if you have Nikon mount - stay with Nikon. I don't know what type of mounts Nikon has had over the years, I use Canon FD mount lenses with my Letus. Canon FD is an old mount and the lenses can sometimes be hard to find (but I did find all the ones I wanted eventually).

For your types of lenses - get a basic "prime"set (lenses that are fixed no zoom). I have a 28mm, 50mm and a 100mm. A 300mm would be better than the 100mm though. When you buy your lenses, buy the most "open" lenses you can (smallest f-stop#). They will be a little more, but you don't want to loose any light if you don't have to. My baby is the 50mm 1.4 - best DOF and open enough to use indoors.

As for the f-stop and auto focus - AF won't work with the adapters. There is no electronic metering or adjustment capabilities to activate the AF on the lenses - so only buy manual focus. The f-stop is the same. The adapter won't adjust your aperture - so your lens will only use the native f-stop.

I only have the old Letus35a so I can't comment on the newer models. Hope this helps.

Also: A great place to buy used lenses is: keh.com. I bought my last lens there for only $13! (it was a good condition 100mm)
