quickie question:
have used sony tape for about a half hour of shooting on 100a, and would like to switch to panasonic.
after this short usuage, do i need to use tape cleaner for 100a or deck?

also, previous question-answer says "never" use tape cleaner.

Re: to clean or not to c lean

This site does so much to widen ownership of the DVX , a Panasonic ENGINEER should answer things like this DIRECTLY - rather than us all stumbling around on so many overheard rumours and subjective opinions.

The fact is , only someone from a tape/videohead testing lab knows the real answer to this - we're left trying to decipher the truth from the marketing blurb. Come on Panny - hows about helping dismiss some rumours ? ! AND whilst on my soapbox , some technical specifications , quantifiyable test measurements , and clear specific statement of prohibition/suitability for various scenarios !! - something like

" we do not recommend the mixing of the following typs of mDV tapes . . . . . " ,
along with
" DVM63PQ and DVM 63MQ tapes ( ? ) are suitable for exchangeable use within the same camera/deck "
, and
" head cleaning is essential between using type A and type B tapes as listed below"
, and
"the following tapes are all compatible with anyother tape within the same listed group, and can be mixed in use with no specific head cleaning issues"

. . . OR WHATEVER !!!! - HELP US PANASONIC !! you're my only hope ! ;D

Re: to clean or not to c lean

i second the motion of control lab. the dvx 100a is such a great camera, but some imput, on this terrific site, from panasonic about some of these questions asked over and over would be lovely.
especially this tape matter and cleaning tape situation.
