Greetings,

I wonder if anyone can answer this. I generally shoot on the HVX200 (sometimes 1080p/24 and 720/24p). Clients generally asks for all type of different formats from what the film/project was originally shot on. Let's say i shot the project on 1080/24p, and the client will request from this format

1) a 4x3 NTSC version
2) a 16x9 NTSC version
3) a 1080/60i HDV version
4) a 1080/24 HDV version
5) a 16x9 PAL version
6) a 4x3 PAL version

Does anyone know of any software program that can convert all different formats from a 1080/24 or 720/24 format? I have used TMPEGNC Xpress and it does most of these formats, but does not do 1080/24 HDV. Does anyone know of a version that does this? or can recommend a software that can create a full varied options from a HD format -1080 or 720?

Best,
Omar

Aw shoot I own a PC. I know Final Cut has alot of great options. Do you know of any softwares that would run on a PC?

1) a 4x3 NTSC version -- analog? Or 60Hz DVD-video? DVD-video is MPEG-2 SD PS, google for frame size/rate and bitrate.
2) a 16x9 NTSC version -- 16x9 NTSC does not exist. Did you mean 60Hz widescreen DVD-video?
3) a 1080/60i HDV version -- HDV is MPEG-2 HD TS on tape. Google for specific bitrate, frame size, etc. Add pulldown in your software.
4) a 1080/24 HDV version -- 24p-over-60? That would be like (3), 24p with pulldown. Native 24p? You will need a Canon camcorder or a third-gen Sony camcorder to record this, or a newer deck.
5) a 16x9 PAL version -- 50Hz widescreen DVD-video?
6) a 4x3 PAL version -- 50Hz 4:3 DVD-video?

HDV means tape. You cannot get HDV through software, but you can get MPEG-2 HD TS. I don't know whether TMGEnc can to TS (transport stream) as opposed to PS (program stream). If yes, can it do native 24p TS? Dunno.

Seems that you basically need either MPEG-2 HD TS or MPEG-2 SD PS, your editing software should be able to render them, these are basics. Scaling of progressive footage is not a problem at all, you don't need to care about deinterlacing.

:) Yes i know HDV means tape. TMPGENC Xpress takes an MXF 1080/24p file and can convert it to a m2t 1080/60i file that can be used for transport stream to a HDV tape. I get all that.

This is more a question about a software than can do frame rate and format conversions - i.e. going from MXF to AVI (or quicktime or any other file) WITH frame rate conversions - also creating files that are not only 16x9 but 4x3 hence cutting off the sides of the frame. TMPGENC Xpress can do all of these things - excpet a few namely PAL a 24p M2t file. I edit on a AVID PC computer. I know with Apple Compressor and FINAL CUT it is much easier to export your file on all sort of different format functions. I have worked with many editors who cut on FINAL CUT. I am looking for a PC software that essentially does the same? Any other recommendations?

Omar - thanx again for all the responses - it has been helpful

I use it on my Mac for Blu-ray h.264. It is a good program, but there might be free or cheap programs out there that do the same thing. You should also be able to convert when you export out of editing program.
