Title screen - Crits needed

This is a title screen I am working on for a kids fencing tournament that I taped. The name of the evemt was The Peanut Butter Cup (like the US Cup). The logo of the fencer is the school's design. Let me know what you think. If you can come up with a better scheme or let me know what is not working I would be greatly appreciative. I haven't been working in PS very long, but you don't have to treat me with kid gloves. I'm a big boy and I can take the crits.

By the way NAFA is the New Amsterdam Fencers Academy.

looks pretty good -- clean clear no need to have startling 3D text like the openeing of some hollywood feature.

if this animates on in some way a short clip would be nice to see -- I assume the shots of the kids on this title screen are moving too.

NAFA needs to move one peanut butter cup ridge or so to the left or the peanut butter cup needs to come to the right.

Damn Jack you're a night owl! Thanks for the crit. I'll push the NAFA one ridge to the left when I get home tonight. Here is an upload of the title sequence. I still need to work on my keyframing. And I bet I did this the least efficient way. For the people using Premiere Pro how would you do this? I know my method took too long. I razored at the last moving frame, inserted one frame from the same clip and held that frame. It made keying it really more difficult. I also found the movement of the clips to not be fluid. Need to read up a lot more on keying.

Also, let me know if you thought it worked. I like it okay, but it still seems to lack something.

EDIT: Just noticed your new sig line. This is your new Herofest sig line or your Zombiefest sig line modified for this contest?:) It looks cool either way.

hey I can't seem to click throough to a valid link for your file

Thanks for trying. It's a download site. You have to d/l the file. I checked it and it seemed to work form my pc here at work.

Where do you go when you want to upload something?

I like it.

I would recommend taking one of the two kids and flipping the image so that instead of everyone facing right, one of them is facing left and you get a little contrast/conflict/energy.

Chris

I agree with Chris about flipping one of the images. Also, I feel like the bottom image and the graphic over it, somehow don't quite jive. A little busy. Though I have no real suggestion for fixing it.

Otherwise, I think it's pretty cool. I would resist the temptation to get too crazy with it. I always think simple and elegant is best.

Ok got the link to work

looks good but teh bottom band seems to stutter into place rather thanm go smoothly like the top one.

to be REALLY pro I think you would wan to vary the speeds and have things ZOOM on at a variable rate so that they start at the pace you have them but then speed up and snap into place -- but that's too much work for this sort of thing and its fine how you have it.

good idea on flipping the images so they go different ways.

it needs sound fx, try some swish ....

hold on I'll do it for you ... upload in a second

okay this should jazz it up a touch for you:
http://frenchquarterfeatures.com/swishy.mov

here's your SFX only Aif file:
http://frenchquarterfeatures.com/SFXonly_1-2.aif

hope you dig it / that it's useful -- didn't take me any time at all so don't feel obliged to use it

You should be able to just drop SFX only into your video at the exact starting poing that you made this clip from

if not, you'll have to finess it ... place a marker in the sound file at one of its peaks -- i.e. the "shing" that should appear with the logo and then drag the marker point so that it siyncs up at the same poing in the nle wehere the logo pops up ... or at least that's how I do it.

That's really cool Jack. Thanks a lot. I really like the transition to the actual fencing at the end. I will definitely incorporate those effects into the title sequence. You da man! Better hurry up with your list though, I'm about to complete a bunch of items from the to do list this weekend. Thank God it is going to rain tommorrow. Otherwise I would have had to go outside and enjoy the warm weather.:crybaby:

By the way, let me know if you need help with anything. I'm down to help out/learn.

Thanks Chris and Mark. I agree that one of them should be inverted. And I definitely agree that simplicity is the way to go. I am not sure whether or not I will remove the Fencer logo but I agree it doesn't fit perfectly.

Thanks guys for the crits and help. I'll post the updates when I get them done. I also need to work on keyframing. It was a little too stuttered for my tastes.

If you have any footage of the fencer facing toward the camera you could use photoshop and put a peanut butter cup stuck on the end of the sword. :)

Awesome. Thanks so much. And definitely let me know if you need an extra hand. I am currently fleshing out my outline and hope to get the script going and/or done over the weekend. If you want me to take a look at your script just pm me and I'll be happy to give it a once over. No pressure though. I'll understand if you're not comfortable with that.

I thought about that afterwords too. Damn I wished I had that idea while I was filming. All the shots (except for the cut aways) are pretty much 90 degrees from the action. Maybe I can get that extra shot in when I go to drop off the DVD. Then I'll throw it in for them as I am in talks with them to film other events.
Thanks, where were you when I was filming?:dankk2:
