Tips on making a Zombie short with the DVX

Hi,

Hopefully in about a week or so I will start working on some shorts.

Something I have in mind is a zombie sequence (30-60sec) (that doesn't look like crap)

That said, I'm working extremely low budget, so minimalism is key, do as much with as little as possible.

What I have at my disposal is my DVX, Final cut studio, AE, PS, and some free time to complete this. oh and hopefully a bunch of people willing to be zombies

So, has anyone shot a short zombie sequence, if so, leave some pointers in the comments....
Especially stuff like exposure settings... (I'll shoot it in 24pA using SQUEEZE)
plus any tips on how to treat the footage in post
CC tips (using color or AE or FC)

I'm sure Indiemogul and Creative Cow and plenty more have some great stuff available, if anyone else has spotted good tutorials and stuff could you post them here please.

Thanks.

oh and i think i'm going to try and build a simple Dolly possably using the skateweel's and pvc pipe as track, but i'm not sure yet.

go watch 28 days later, and that was shot with a xl1(s?) That's 60i garbage camera and it looks incredible. So ur dvx will look better if you got tight make-up and mess with some high contrast scene settings.

definitely make-up will be key. I dono how many extras you're planning on using, but you will definitely need some helpers for makeup. I usually use spirit gum, a bruise kit, and i improvise for blood. For thicker stuff i use jam, and for bleeding blood i use corn syrup, red food colouring and a bit of water. you can make gallons of it for almost no cost.

Thanks everyone for there helpful comments, I have seen 28days later and really enjoyed the overall look of the movie, (some people hate it, but i am not one of them)

I unfortunately don't have the resources to buy/make a 35mm adapter so i'm left with the stock lens, which should work out fine.

any tips on making peoples eyes all screwed up (red and dead looking)
are there like cheap contact like things you can get? (emphasizing cheap)

thanks again

There are special contact lenses that you can buy but they cost around $300+ per set. I would try to do it in post, if possible.
