Tips needed for feature-pilot

Hi everyone!

Im doing a 12 minute pilot for a action-feature in develompent, scheduled for shooting in mid-may. Well do alot of pyro (wallsquibs/dryexplosions/sparks/bulletimpact w/blood), high paced fighting coreography and stunts (falling from heights and car impacts). I need some tips for EX1 operation and settings for our wanted look.

The director is really inspired by fighting sequenses from "Bourne Ultimatum", and the other Bourne movies. And I really like the clean/sharp look coming out of 35mm Hollywood film. I guess thats partly because they work with the best cameras/stocks avaliable, but also the wanted polished style of hollywood. Norwegian films (yes, I am Norwegian) usually have quite gritty and grainy looks, and regardless of what they say about their artistic choices, I feel its a question of economics.

So getting this polished 35mm look would be a goal for me. Sadly, I have much more limited resources on this project then on many ive done recently. We cannot shoot 35 adapter, but Im actually not to stressed, since stock lens on EX1/HVX200 does produce a more clean&sharp look.

1.
So how to setup the camera/picture profiles? Anyone shot something similar with good results? I guess I would have cinegamma, but perhaps not less detail as one would think for "cinemalook"?

2.
I would like very little motion blur, for the action and pyro to be as detailed as possible. Ive tried some explosions on HDV in shutter 100, which looks great but quite videoish and hard to mix with shutter 50/60. EX1 experience?

3.
I will use lot of handheld. My concept for this will be that every movement is motivated from actor/object movement, so no redicilous camerashakes (hopefully). Any tips for operating EX1 handheld, the unergonomic beast... I have done one commercial using DVRig, and was quite happy except that I could not use the rod extending from the belt. It created way to much motion incam. How would easyrig work for a camera of this size?

4.
Rolling shutter/flash issues. What do I need to think of to avoid problems? Does a pyrotechinal spark trigger the "flash"/shutter issue of dividing the frame? How about pans/shakes? Any spesific maxspeed for this?

Thanks for any help regarding this, and thanks for a great forum!

Regards
Håvar
