I use my Sony FS700 with kitesurfing but often have a hard time getting my object to stay in focus. Are there any tricks you guys can recommend for me or a setting I don't know in the camera? I remember Andrew Young in the vide 4 days with the Sony FS700 actually had more succes with the AF over the MF. This is his video 2 years ago :

Here is a very short video that I made filmed with AF slowmotion 200 fps internally. Manual Focus might be better with practice, but fast action I still find very tricky in MF.

Hope you have some ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Best tip I can think of is to use Sony Alpha glass with the LA-EA 2 or 3 or 4,
whichever one is the best at autofocus there days (hard to keep track of this,
I think the LA0EA2 was the first to offer the Phase Detection autofocus, not
sure what if anything has been improved on with the LA-EA 3 or 4.
You will not be able to shoot at F2.8, I think 3.5 is the fastest F-stop you
can shoot at, but that should be fine, and much faster autofocus without
the hunting that native E-mount lenses may sometimes give you.

Thanks for your replies. I have the LA-EA 4 which does a great job already. I will just have to practice more.

Same issues but at least what I shoot is far more predictable (motorcycle road racing) they come to me and usually on the exact same line.... downside is I can't go out and buy a Sony 400 and 600 to use the adapter. I have never seen it but have been wondering if the image in the Zacuto Gratical is so much better it would do the trick for manual focus. I wold be ok if I did not constantly have to hit the magnify focus button. The Gratical is just so freakin expensive and I don't need any of the other features it offers just a razor sharp image and a scope.

Funnily enough, I sometimes find it easier to track focus manually with a wider aperture. It's easy to see a sharp object against a blurry background, but it's not so easy to notice a soft subject against a slightly soft background.

agreed even if I am going to shoot at 5.6 I often open up wide to focus first
