Tiny computer to capture video

Neat, but a little pricey considering the lack of screen & true portability; I'd stick with a laptop myself.

that oqo thing is the bomb.. a little bigger than an ipod but still pretty cool.

too bad its only 30gb though :(

How little do you need? Here is a WindowsXP computer the size of an iPod.

sweet!

I notice its a transmeta processor. ( I had one in a Vaio C1 picturebook, not the most powerful but good for your battery).

Any idea what hard disk is being used and how accessible it is? I see it is shock mounted for a start.

Is there such a thing as a laptop with an HD screen?

Yes, as long as it supports the size 1280 or 1080. They are naturally progressive, or otherwise known as NON-INTERACED.

yes.. sager has made a 1920 screen for quite a few years now. I think alienware does as well.

Here are 2 concepts for how you could use one of these little computers.

1. Just like the the Panasonic P2 storage device. Write a routine that when it detects the P2 card is plugged into the PCMCIA port is empties the contents to the HD.

2. Use a small program to capture live video to the HD. This is trickier but I think doable.

The trick is to make either operation automatic so you do not use a keyboard or monitor. Maybe you could use some device which plugs into the USB port with a few lights to monitor activity.

I like the small laptop idea also. My only complaint is all the really small ones are very expensive. But maybe that is a more practical way to go.

For $1,500 to $2,000, I would rather have a comparable laptop. You can get an Acer ferrari for that price.

For that price you can get a Panny P2 Store (if the point is to have an uninterrupted workflow -- at least 60 GB worth and designed specifically for the HVX) . . . besides that laptop didn't exactly get rave reviews from what I could see. But, then again, the laptop is much more versatile and can serve other (non P2 related) apps.

Correct on both accounts, but alienware demands my firstborn. I'm not familiar with Sager are they reliable?

I've been using an HP laptop for months with 1920x1200 (WUXGA).

Here's the product link, if you want more info:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06a/321957-64295-89315-321838-f1-447338.html

I know Dell offers models as well, you just have to do a little searching. HP only lists theirs in the "business" section of their website... apparently 1920x1200 isn't aimed at the "consumer" market. Still, I wasn't going to get a new laptop with anything less than I could play back my HVX footage with at full resolution. It's actually quite ironic that the only real workable solution for the HVX right now is Apple, but they don't make any laptops with screens that can display back the 1080 footage in its full resolution. Quite a conundrum...
