Timeline/trimming issue

Ok guys, here's my situation...

I have a reference clip cut into my timeline... many of them... I have several other clips with the same timecode, etc. Now shouldn't I be able to select however long that reference clip is and splice my new clips in? Please let me know, thanks.

You have the clips cut in to the right length, and just need to change out the footage? Set your in point in the source, set your blue bar over the clip you want to replace, hit "t" to select the clip, then "b" to replace it.

There is also an replace edit command, but I have never used it.

Replace Edit command rocks. Just line up the play head, and enable the tracks you want and hit replace edit. - it is in the composer monitor fast menu - (little hamburger)

It takes the playhead from preview monitor and starts the edit at the timeline playhead and calculates the length of reference clip. - it should keep all your effects as well.
