Timeline Sequence Settings on 7D/T2I

Hey guys,
I have shot quite a bit of footage. Most of it is 24p but some is 60p. I am not understanding what is happening on my timeline. I go to Sequence, Settings, and I choose HDTV (1080i)... So first of all, is that the right choice?
What happens is the frame rate sometimes lets me change to 24 or 23.98, but sometimes it won't let me do anything and it stays at 29.98. What's going on there? Then sometimes when I drop footage into the timeline it is very small, so I double click on the footage and go to the motion tab and move the 37.3 to 111 and that takes up the proper amount of the screen... but sometimes I use 100... So obviously, I am having some issues here and need some education on what I am doing wrong and what I need to do to fix the problem.
thanks
jared

Other then the chant we all yell at these posts, like what FCP version, what size video, blablabla.

If you have a modern FCP you should open new project, Import (transcoded Pro Res 422) footage, drop in timeline. The sequence will then automatically have the same settings as the video.

Always give complete hardware and software specs.

It is essential to help to understand your issue and give advice.

FCP 6 on MBP 2.2 Core 2 Duo 2GB of RAM shooting 60fps at 720p and 24fps at 1080 all on one shared timeline

Do you plan on slowing down your 720 footage for slo-mo? If so, then conform to 24p in Cinema Tools first.

Then you'll have to decide whether you want to edit in 1080 or 720. After you decide, drop a clip with your target resolution into a new sequence. You will be prompted to choose if you want the sequence settings to match your footage settings. Click yes.

Of course you will either have to scale down your 1080 footage or scale up your 720 footage depending on what you chose earlier.

ok, i did conform the 60p in cinema tools cause it is slowed down... and i wanted to do everything in 1080... however, sometimes even the footage that i shot in 24p at 1080 is still not working correctly...

Red Giant's Magic Bullet Grinder will convert the 720p60 to slow motion 23.98, and 1080p, all in one click. And to ProRes too.
