Timelapse???

StMad, no I'm not cashing in on my timelapse. I'm sure if I made more of an attempt to sell it I could maybe make more than what I already have. It was something I wasn't planning on making any money on when I started doing it. I did make enough so far to pay for two new shutters when the one in the 20D goes out.

Right now I'm planning on doing some custom shots for a doc coming up soon. Just timelapse footage. Plus I've also been building my shots up little by little. A site is also rep-ing my footage.

Drew-

Great stuff! One of the best reels I've seen.

Do you just sit there and manually click the shutter with the remote the entire time or is there a timer system on the remote itself?

And what time increments do you shoot in?

Workaholic, the remote that I use has a automatic frame fire. So I just set it to 99, which is the highest you can go with it and I get about 33 frames off of one button press. I guess you can say that I shoot in 2 second increments. At least that's how long the shutter is open for.

All the times I go out and get footage I'm standing there looking around to make sure no one is thinking about how they could get my camera away from me. Most of the places I go to shoot in LA aren't the best places to to be hanging out at night. But still its worth it.

that means this is not hvx200 footy? but the canon d20 is not a camcorder?? how does it work? do you guys shot every second a frame of tha TL?

sry 4 my dumb question but I don't undersatnd how to shoot TL with a canon D20!

i'm confused

I've explained this before and if you did a search on my posts you would see how I did this. So when I say frame I'm talking about a digital frame. All the timelapse is are a series of pictures taken with a tripod and then assembled together in a 24fps timeline in FCP or Motion...or After Effects.

Shivrajs, I'm glad you like the footage but please don't steal. Its not like that footage just makes it's self. Believe it or not I do have to do some work to produce it. Plus the cost of the camera and the computer and on and on. In the unlikely event that I do catch someone using my footage without my expressed permission I will have to do something about it that they might not like. You could always buy it like everyone else does.

I think he was going to use it as inspiration for shooting something himself. As the old expression goes, a good artist takes inspiration.. and a great artist steals it.

You stuff looks sweet Drew so I would go after people if they did intentionally stole it. That's why I put a watermark on anything I give out or deliver to a client without getting paid for it first. I've been burned too many times.. and have a good friend who had his movie stolen from him and sold oversees and he hasn't gotten a dime to date...

ahhh.. well, I did finally get up some of my timelapse and footage on this forum. It's listed under the 4 minute HVX demo. Please check it out and let me know what you think.

Justyn, that's not the way it sounded. But of course it could always mean what you said.

I use to post my stuff on here without the tag for my website on it. Then I started getting people asking about buying the footage. That's when I started doing that. But I'm not too sure how that file would look on a regular TV. I know not as good as the HD copies I have. But I'm sure SD could mask a lot of the web compression.

BTW, I did see your timelapse. I'll post what I thought about it over in your post.

Well I'm sure he'll clarify... Believe me, I know too well about people taking stuff and then using it or distributing it. I had a horrible time with bootlegs off my feature.. so now, I put a watermark on anything until it's the release product.

Thanks for the reply too. Got some other little things to put up as well.

Drew, just out of curiosity, what is the brand/model/make/etc... of the remote you use to trigger your DSLR? Or rather, what are they called because I can't find anything like that on B&H. Thanks!

Firsty hello forum:)

just stumbled across this thread in a google rampage checking out other peoples timlapses, and trying to better my one.

For a long time i have wanted to do panning timelapses, and finally recently managed to pull some together using off the shelf bits bodged together for a college project.

thought i would just see what you guys think

(btw i know there is a spelling mistake at the end in that version)

gonna be doing a lot more of these

p.s. Drew i had the Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3, and im sure that if you dont set the number of frames it carries on indefinitely

Hey Ollie, great stuff. What camera is that? and how long was the exposure?

Ollie, that was some really cool timelapse. Normally I don't like timelapse on a 360 rig but that looked really good. I'll also have to check out what you said about the controller. It would be much better if I could just leave it alone and let it do its thing.

Thanks guys, I was pretty chuffed with my first results, but ater seeing Drews truly amazing and inspiring work i realise there is still a lot of room for improvement. As soon as the foul weather we have suffered in the UK this May disappears i will be back out there with much slower/subtle panning. Now i have the technique down i can focus more on the subject and the shots.

Im also using a 20d with the kit 18-55mm lens, which im looking at upgrading pretty pronto, in the hope that it will help some of my shots.

For anyone interested im using this pan and tilt head, and i previously used a electronics kit i got from maplins (uk) MK111 as an intervalometer, unfortunately its not accurate enough. But i could'nt afford anything else after breaking my TC-80N3 :(
Now i am working with circuits that give me control to the millisecond, and can be programmed to do all sorts of wonderful stuff.
So far my motion control rig has cost me £150 (+camera), and has a lot of potential i cant wait to unleash.
