Does anyone have any samples of timelapse footage?
I am looking to see if the HVX200 can produce streaks.
Thanks in advance!

Only if the object is moving really fast. Unlike an SLR camera, the shutter on the HVX can't open for long period of time. The slowest yoou can do is 1/15th of a second.

maybe a good firmware update. I'd like to have that option for sure. Maybe even if it's in the single frame or shot option.

I have an incredible timelapse that I did. The file is probably a gig though as I did it at 1080 60i. I don't have my FCP.. its shipping. I'll put up a sample when I get mine, unless someone has a FTP site I could upload.. they could convert and then host for a short period... and host is as a regular quicktime format in 264 and plain old quicktime..

Interesting question...and recently have found out that the answer is yes! It can produce streaks...but you kind of have to "mod" the scene file to do so. There's an interesting forum

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=53032&page=2

pages 2 and 3 are probably what you'll want to look at. This mod allows the HVX to shoot in the following frame rates

2,3,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22,23,24,26,27,28,30,32,34,36,38,40,42,44,46,48,50,52,54,56,58,60

and as Barry so tactfully stated
"you can set the shutter to 350 degrees and get an exposure time of almost 1/2 of a second!"

That's amazing...that's how you get your streaks. Good luck!

Drew.. Those are some inspirational timelapses. Look incredible. I'm interested in the new hack for some nightime options. Yippee

Yesterday I saw that 2fps clip that HVXguy did and it looks okay. Personally I will keep using my 20D to do timelapse and not the HVX. Plus I have no idea how safe those new frame rates are. Wouldn't want the camer a to freak out on me and just stop working. I would take a bullet for my HVX...well maybe not a bullet.

Wow! That 599 productions timelapse is flat-out gorgeous. I rarely see footage posted on these forums that moves me significantly. Great job. You're a true artist.

Was it captured from the SLR using a laptop and software? Or do digital SLRs have extended timelapse features? I know nothing of the SLR world.

Drew,

What was the frame interval of your timelapse. I know it was shot with a DSLR but was it one frame per second or one frame every 10 seconds? And what was the exposure time?

I have had mixed success in using my DSLR going to laptop. I have Nikon capture software but it produces inconsistent results/exposure, even with the camera in manual operation. I have seen Boing software for the MAC, anybody used that??

Since seeing that footage I've been looking around online for 20D timelapse info. With the 20/30D cameras, Canon includes a remote capture software tool that allows RAW interval recording via USB2. I imagine he must've used that.

I'd love to know what speed and exposure he used as well. Those shots are incredible.

Yeah, I have a d70, and was wondering if Nikon had such a thing. I would love to be able to shoot timelapses that look that good. He must have taken a shot about every 10 seconds for an hour atleast on some. That would definetly fill up a 2GB card pretty quickly. He probably had more than 1 card though. Hmmm, now I'm really curious.

I have the D70, Nikon Capture-latest version, Mac 17" PB.
I have tried numerous times to do time-lapse with this set-up.
But I get inconsistent exposures, day or night. Manual settings.
You can load up the frames in After Effects and jog through them and
find the slighest exposure varations. If it were just a still pic no big deal.
But over an hour or so the exposure flucations make the time-lapse unusable.
I would hate to buy an entire Canon set-up and discover the same thing??

HowdyDoo, thanks man for the kind words. I used a wired remote to do the timelapse with. But even with that remote I still have to be involved in what's going on. The controller that I use only goes to 99 frames. Plus its more of a count down than anything else. So when I do 2 second exposures I readlly only get 33 frames in one button press. Its a lot of babysitting to get the shots but I would rather have that controller out with me instead of a computer.
