GH4 Timelapse recording only half the prescribed frames?

Maybe i'm missing something, but the timelapse feature is pretty straitforward, give it an interval, and how many frames you want. in my case i've been setting it to every 1 second, and a frame count of 500. i get back to edit, and i find exactly half that number of frames.

shooting Raw, no slow shutter

am i missing something or is this properly screwy?

That is weird. I haven't shot a timelapse with my GH4 yet but plenty on GH3.

I'll have to give it a try and see if it happens for me. Can you try and re-create and give specific settings?

maybe the buffer just can't keep up... just tried two sequences of supposed to be 100 images each. first one set to a shooting interval of 1sec, and it came out to 50 images, second shot set to interval of 2sec, and that came out to 100 shots

sandisk 95mb/sec card 1/60 shutter, tried both jpeg and raw, same result

The buffer should be able to keep up for 1 sec intv. I'll just run off a timelapse with 1sec intv of a wall and see what happens.

**EDIT**

I can't even seem to get mine to start timelapse like I did on the GH3. On my GH4 when I select now to start the timelapse it just takes me back one menu. Is there something I'm missing here? Maybe a setting? I haven't done a timelapse yet with this GH4.

On one hand it makes sense, but on the other, the camera is specifically told to take a certain amount of images, its like it's saying.... i can't manage to do this thing, so i'm not going to do anything else right either....

oh, did you turn the knob to the left of the flash to timelapse? (the last icon)

That was it. I didn't realize it was different than GH3 in that way. Thanks for the help.

I just did a test and ran 100 frames at 1 sec intervals and I got all 100 frames.

I have long exposure NR on but that wouldn't have anything to do with it. Using mechanical shutter also not electronic shutter. I think SS was set at 1/60 or something like that.

and im using electronic shutter, can't see how that would affect it, but could be.

the manual doesn't help much, just states:

• Recording may not be consistent with the set recording interval or the set number of pictures
depending on recording conditions.
• Recording may be skipped when the recording time is longer than the recording interval, such
as long time exposure.

alright, all figured out. just a rather dumb setting:

Good idea: i set shutter delay for a second (so my hand doesn't affect the first frame when i initiate)

Bad implementation: the camera's software treats every single timelapse shot as a fresh start, and incurs a shutter delay and thus forces it to skip every other frame.

Quite dumb, since the manual states that the whole purpose of shutter delay is to eliminate hand shake from initiating a photo, thus makes no sense to delay each timelapse shot. firmware fix please!

I never would have found that. Good sleuthing and problem solving.

I was having the same problem. I will try this thank you.

Well that was only part of the problem bu I stumbled on a fix. The time interval needs to be longer than the shutter by a minimum of around 5 seconds. I had the interval 2 seconds longer and it would skip every other frame, and at 5 there is less than 1 second between shots so there are a few seconds of "overhead". Don't know if that's normal or not but it's humming along now.
