Timelapse moon...

See that is what I am wondering if you can get a shot like this and have more detail in the moon. When I closed my Iris the sky became darker and you couldn't see the clouds as well.

Maybe a faster shutter speed? I'm just shooting the idea out there. I think having the slow shutter speed means that you get the moon four times as bright at 1/6 shuttter on 24p. I'm not actually shure if this is true or not. Maybe shooting with a normal shutter or a faster one might yield more detail but an overall darker sky. What f-stop did you shoot at?

I like the house also. The house gives it a cool perspective, and remains still while the clouds move fast. I think this makes the clouds look even faster.

I think people were fine with the house. Just the light from it. It would have been slightly better with the light off.

Love the footage, dude. I'm a night person, who shoots digital still (Nikon D2H) and here's the thing about your Q about Moon detail. You either capture the clouds and ambient at the expense of Moon detail, or you stop down (or speed up the shuuter rate) to get Moon detail at the expense of the ambient light. Only way to get both is to shoot at a more ambient fill time, say duskish or dawnish.

I was puzzled a while ago (back in film days) about the detail thing. A shooter, Jed told me... you're trying to capture the Moon and it is illuminated by the Sun. So your exposure is close to shooting actual daylight. When I got out to try, I felt weird shooting at 1/1000th @ f/5.6 at ISO 200 in the middle of the night.

Your shoot looked terrific to me. I wasn't concerned about the light in the corner, I was mesmerized by the mood of the scene, the way the clouds drifted above... Reminds me of the footage from Baraka. Check out the work of the director, Ron Fricke. Try shooting some as you pan the camera somewhere and then speed up the file like you did. Great feeling, man. I can't wait for the company I work for to order this HVX200. I wanna shoot that and some slow mo of sports .

Cheers,

Exactly. The house isnt the problem. Just the light.

I had no controll over the light being on or off it is on a building in front of my house. I could dim it or turn it off in post but this was just a test clip. I think I will do some more shots likes this when the moon and the clouds are right. Thanks for the comments.

Keep us updated. I'd love to see how they turn out.

I will get you updated. I will try to shoot more this weekend. I will be in DC for a shoot so I will see how the sky is looking at night and shoot some footage.

I then changed the speed to 2000 percent then up to 6000.

That looks awesome! You said that you changed the speed to 2000 percent then up to 6000. What do you mean by that? Was it done in post? Could you elaborate?
