TIMECODE

Halfway through my shoot the timecode display disappeared. We tried to get it back but could not. It is still recording timecode because we dumped some of the footage and the time code was there.

Does anyone know why my timecode display might be missing?

Thanks

Re: TIMECODE

Is this a break in your timecode? Did you take the tape out and reinsert it? Did you playback and preview some of your stuff before continuing?

Re: TIMECODE

All of the above were done at some point during filming, but the Timecode went off mysteriously in the middle of the shoot, even after we had done those things previously and the timecode did not disappear.

Re: TIMECODE

there is a little button above the eject button called rec check... press that if you notice the timecode break and it will find the end for you. IT happens all the time with the DVX and other camera's. A good way to avoid this is when you are changing batteries wait for the red power light to stop blinking when you turn it off.

ITs also a good habbit to press the rec check after each shot anyways, it does a little 2 second preview so you can make sure you actually hit the record button. Some directors will actually yell "check the gate" (a film term to make sure there was enough film in) and that should be your key to press the button.

Re: TIMECODE

I usually press end search after each take, what is the difference between end search and rec check and should I press both of them after each take?

Re: TIMECODE

end search doesnt actually do anything in camera mode.. its for FF/RW to the end of recorded movie when you are viewing playback.

The rec check rewinds a bit and replenishes the timecode when you are in standby mode after recording in camera mode.
