Timecode...

I noticed that my timecode goes back to 00:00:00:00 everytime I put a new tape in. What do I need to do to keep the current timecode going when i need to change to a different? Will putting it on FREE RUN solve this or will it just go back to zero again?

Re: Timecode...

I'm new to the DVX, so I don't know too much about free run but...couldn't you set the timecode yourself on the new tape? Just see where the previous timecode ended and continue from there by manualing setting the time.

If your taping an event that could be a little time consuming.

Re: Timecode...

Yes, setting the TC generator to free run will keep the TC running even when you stop or pause the camera.  Make sure this is really what you want to do because by definition you'll end up with a lot of broken TC if  you're stopping and starting the camera.  What are you trying to do?

Re: Timecode...

If you just want each tape encoded differently, you can pre-set the timecode when you change tapes, so the new tape would start at 01:00:00:00, or whatever you want it to start at.

But it won't do it automatically, you'd have to set it for each tape...

Re: Timecode...

when you put a new tape and want to start new timecode exactly where you left it (i.e the end of last tape):
after inserting the new tape, timecode will show 00:00:00:00, you should then go and set timecode to PRESET. this will automatically generate the last time code the camera memorized.

Re: Timecode...

and no.. free run will keep running the timecode from the moment you chose "free run", regardless to recording on/off or tape changing.

Re: Timecode...

ok on my ENG camera for work, I have the time code set to the time of day. If I eject the tape at 9:50:55:02 and then put in another tape depending on how long it takes me to do that, the timecode might be something like 9:51:22:07 instead of 00:00:00:00 like I am seeing on my DVX everytime I change tapes. Yea that is time consuming to have to go in and set the timecode to pick up where the last tape left off.

Re: Timecode...

You can do exactly that by setting your timecode to FREE RUN.

And what Shai says is that PRESET will "remember" the last time code, and start the next tape where the last one left off.

Re: Timecode...

But what if, I reload a tape on which I have shot a bit. I find that when I roll, the TC starts where my previous tape ended. Basically, what I am looking for is something like a "cue" button like we have on the bigger BetaSP camcorders.
Help! n thanks! - Ajay

Re: Timecode...

There's a button to the right of the viewfinder on top of the camera called Rec Check. That will rewind a bit and pickup the last timecode at that tape.
