I've seen some people saying that without an external timecode source for the f35, every clip will start at 00:00:00:00. Is this true? Can the 7Q+ generate timecode from time of day for the DPX frames it records?
I don't think so. My soundies have certainly never found a way to make that happen. I think the closest we've come is trying to roughly match a time-of-day clock between the Odyssey and the Audio recorder (so that there's a vague reference point for post).
That rings a bell now that you mention it. Only remembering now my first shoot with the F35 + O7Q. After my sound guy scratched his head and we harmonized a few "Uhhhhhhs" together we ended up doing what your guy did and he manually sync'd best he could after lunch + powerdowns
The Odyssey7Q and Odyssey7Q+ can generate timecode.
And it can output this timecode via the LTC (Linear Timecode) BNC output.
It can also accept timecode input either via Timecode embedded in HDMI or HD-SDI or LTC.
If the timecode comes in via HDMI or HD-SDI then the timecode will be output over the LTC BNC output.
One cannot "Jam Sync" the timecode, then remove the timecode cable, the Odyssey requires a continuous timecode source, or it can generate timecode in both Drop Frame and Non-Drop Frame Formats.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to call me.

Thank you Dan. That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'm used to my BlackMagic cameras generating their own internal timecode, not synced with anything else, but still useful for uniquely identifying clips in the edit. It sounds like the Odyssey will do the same, which is all I want.
