Timecode Sync Problem between DVX's!

i was at a shoot a couple of weeks ago and we had 2 dvx's..i have barry's book and kept trying to sync up the timecode as explained, but it never would work right..for some reason, one of the cameras wouldn't switch from DF to NDF (or the other way around, whatever mode was listed in the book), and i assume this is why it wouldn't work...one camera was always a few seconds faster that the other...all other settings were the same...does anybody have any idea what i may have been doing wrong? both cameras were DVX100A's...i've GOT to figure this out...

there is a way to use a single remote to reset the timecode on both cams at the same time during free run mode, which is listed in the book as working with original 100's, 100a's and of course 100b's, so i don't mean actual digital syncing...
