timecode resetting after battery change?

I had a battery get low on me when shooting today, and when I switched them, the time code set itself back to 01:00:00:00... that is what I had set it to start at the begining of the reel, but before power down it was at 01:48:35:24 or something like that...

why would the camera lose it's time code? I have switched batteries many times and never had it lose time code...?

I checked other settings, and everything else seemed to be where I left it...? isn't there some sort of small internal battery to maintain settings/date/time, etc, when the camera is without power?

any ideas what happened here?

Your timecode should've reset to its previous timecode after you started recording. Depends on if you had it on Record Run.

Re: timecode resetting after battery change?

When you fired the camera back up it must have been at the blank point at the end of your recording, thereby resetting to your TC preset. Hitting the Rec Chk button would have regenerated the TC where you left off as added insurance. Probably just a fluke this time - when you powered up and it rethreaded, it came up on blank tape. I really doubt it indicates a problem.

FWIW, when I finish shooting a scene and want to review the footage or change a battery, I run a few seconds of bars. Then I can review or otherwise recue the tape without worrying about recording over the end of a take or a break in the recording (and thus, the timecode).

when you turn your camera off you will notice that the red power light flashes a few beats.. wait for that light to turn off before you take the battery out as the camera is locking down the tape and TC when its flashing. Its quick so you usually dont hafta watch, but if you take it off to quick if the tape is still unlocked your timecode will regen.
