timecode problem in capturing

I looked around to see if anyone asked this already. I've used my 24p on 2 different shoots and on both (and on different computers) when I capture, after every single cut, it rewinds slowly before that cut and then plays forward slowly just after and then final cut gives me a timecode problem. I gather it has something to do with my in camera settings so my question is what settings do I need to change and to what to prevent this problem.

Re: timecode problem in capturing

The number one problem I would suspect is a timecode break. Is there an edit point you are trying to capture where the timecode jumps discontinuously?

If so, you may have to adjust your capture in and out points so that they don't include the timecode break. Note that this can be a problem for FCP even if the timecode break is not actually in your captured footage but is instead in the pre-roll or post-roll before and after the clip.

You usually get timecode breaks when you rewind the camera to review the tape and then record a new take slightly after where your last take ended. You can usually avoid them by making sure you record over the end of your last take.

Also, FCP4 in theory handles timecode breaks better than FCP3, but I can't verify that.
