Timecode from FS700 -> O7Q to Sounddevices 744T

Hi,

I'm a total novice when it comes to timecode. We have a shoot starting next thursday (I get my O7Q on tuesday) so wanted to ask if people here could offer some advice.

Our sound guy is getting a Sound Devices 744T http://www.sounddevices.com/products/744t/ How is it doing a sync timecode with this setup? Is it as easy as setting a BNC cable from O7Q to the audio recorder and a few menu settings here and there? Or is there more to it?

Thanks!

Sami

I haven't run a cable directly from the Sound Devices, but a sound guy I work with has a little timecode box than he jams timecode to (and then just hops audio wirelessly for reference to my camera). Should be similar to running a cable directly to the Sound Devices recorder.

With the 7Q, I went to the Settings > Inputs > Timecode > Source and change it to LTC instead of SDI (since that's the timecode from the FS700.) Then plug your BNC into the LTC IO port, and you're good to go.

Timecode question.

Without using the timecode from the FS700 (I just like the record using the 7Q and NOT use camera trigger), can you set a FREERUN timecode in the 7Q?

Or, would the FREERUN get recorded by the 7Q if it's going on the FS700? Since I can't seem to find a way to do FREERUN on the 7Q, I was thinking that running it from the FS700 might work.

I run time of day free run for most of what I shoot. Recently I was using both a Canon C300 and an FS700/7Q side by side and to jam time code I came out of the C300 and into the 7Q. I kept the BNC cable plugged in the entire shoot but this worked perfectly.
