timecode error in batch capture

I have been having the same problem for months now. When I try to import more than one clip after logging an entire tape I always get a message:

"Batch Capture: Timecode Error: Unable to locate the specified timecode. You may have specified timecode with insufficient room for pre/post roll operation."

A quick search through google pulls up several beginners having this problem (I am a beginner also).

I have a g5 running Final Cut Pro 5. I am using a Sony DCR-HC30, and have had the same problem with my Sony HDR FX1.

I am not trying to capture near the beginning of the tape. If I batch capture one clip at a time, it usually works, but sometimes it captures the wrong thing.

Is there a timecode setting on my camera that could be wrong? Is it common to see this error?

It is possible I am logging wrong. I play the tape, hit the "I" key when I want it to start, and the "F2" key to set the out point and to label it. After I get about 30 clips logged, I select "batch capture."

I could do a capture now -that works fine, but I have a lot of footage and want to conserve hard drive space. Any suggestions at all would be much appreciated.

Press rec check button between powering off or reviewing.

More than likely your timecode reset to 0 so you have multiple spots on the tape with the same timecode.

Make sure to roll off a biut before the crtical ppart of the shot and continue to roll for a moment or two when done with a take. Keep in/out capture points inbetween starting and stopping camera points.

wow, you have no idea how long i have been trying to figure that out. that sounds like it is very likely the problem, since we often review footage and fast forward to a blank spot. thanks a lot for the help.
