I didnt need it ever, but I saw timecode burn ins on a lot of unfinished professional videos and I was always wondering what are the purposes for this? Is this something for sound guys? :)

There are a million reasons: For sound people, for negative cutters if you're shooting film, for effects houses, for the network or client so that they can give accurate notes on the current cut...

whatever saves time/money.
In the linear daze, they were almost a required part of the process. It was just too expensive to seek or expeirment, much of the time.
Rough cuts, paper cuts and even the term offline, come from the use of burn ins.

...a lil tech tip, When in need of a burn in from your Avid suite, you can skip the render of AVX plugins by just looping through your beta deck and turning super on.

With MC 3.x, there's a realtime timecode burn plug-in that gives you lots and lots and lots of options.
