time lapses on the dvx100b?

i was wondering how to do time [FONT=Arial,Bold]Intervals with the DVX100B. If any one could tell me how to set it up on my camera, that would be great.

The DVX100 does not have a timelapse function.
What are you trying to shoot, and for how long? - I ask because there are several ways of doing timelapse work, not all ideal for every situation.

Ok, Here goes;

The first question is how long do you want to record for?
If it's up to an hour long (real time), just shoot a whole tape and speed it up in post.

If it's longer than that, you don't really want to be using a video camera anyway.
when you do timelapse work with a video camera, you put massive wear on the heads.
Imagine shooting tape very slowly - say 1/2 sec of actual recording in every 30 seconds.
In that 30 second rest time, the camera is not going to stop the heads and then start them again, so the head wear will be massive.

The best way to do long duration timelapse is with a digital camera that has interval shooting capability. You will probably need a seperate power supply as well.
I use a DSLR (a Canon EOS30D) with the Canon RemoteCapture software, and a Ricoh GR Digital compact, which has a built in interval timer.

Using the RemoteCapture software is all very well, if you have a PC handy. If you don't, then you will need an intervalometer such as the Time Machine (http://www.bmumford.com/photo/camctlr.html), or one of the camera manufacturer's systems: (Canon-http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&Q=&is=REG&O=productlist&sku=164271) (Nikon-http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=Search&A=details&Q=&sku=407310&is=REG&addedTroughType=search)

One thing to note is that Nikon are not shipping their remote shooting software free with the camera, thus you will have to buy it seperately if you need it. Canon supply their software free.

The other option is the old tried and tested one, the cine camera equipped with a single frame advance mechanism. Again, you will need an intervalometer.
I can't tell you much about this, as I've (unfortunately) never used this setup.

I have had excellent results from the Digital SLR though.
If you have any more questions, let me know and I'll try and help.

Edit:
I'm just putting together a quick demo of the Ricoh in interval mode (a little naughty, as I'm at work, but what the hell)
I'll post it up later on.

Here is a demo of the Ricoh's intervalometer.
I literally set the camera going and left it for a while.
1 photo every 30sec. Obviously this is horribly compressed - the original is 8 MP resolution, and thus way beyong the requirements of even HD.

The pic at the bottom shows the intervalometer setup screen on the GR Digital.

FYI...

Here is another device for time lapse:
http://www.pclix.com/pages/pclix_main.html

One day I will buy and try...

Thanks... I have seen that one in the past and thought it looked good. I had forgotten about it.
I'm now umming and ahhing about which one to get - the Canon TC80N3 or the Pclix.

The "time machine" I mentioned above is rather expensive and overspecified for what I want to do.
