Time lapse?

Ok, so I know the HMC150 can't do time lapse. It's a complete waste to record it all and then speed it up in post.

Any other way to accomplish this? Are there button pusher devices out there?

Would think you could accomplish it through Infrared sending "record" buttons in a timed interval.

Any suggestions or links to products?

Thanks!

Hmm.. Well it is theoretically possible to have some sort of external electronics send rec signals through the external controller jack.

Haven't heard of any though, but then, I haven't particularly looked.

You would end up with hundreds of clips.... thats a editing nightmare IMO.

Someone needs to hack it like all the other cameras hacked out there...

I know with the Rebel you can get a program to snap shots at whatever interval you would like... I wonder if you can do the same thing with a HDMI capture box...

I did this http://vimeo.com/8932679 by taking my 1080/30P footage and running it through this avisynth script:

AVISource("SunriseFallBridge.avi",pixel_type="RGB32")
SelectEvery(6, 0)
ConvertFPS(29.97)

then taking the subsequent .avi and speeding it up in Vegas with a 300% velocity envelope, nesting it in another Vegas project and doing a 300% Velocity and finally a third time again with a 300% envelope.

I then time stretched it a little in the beginning.

What's wrong with putting it at HA quality and recording for 8 hours on a 32GB stick? Sure, you use up some space but you get to re-use it after you dump it.

Hello,

I am a very new owner to my HMC150 as well but i have done time lapses before... If you have access to a laptop, i used my Macbook pro there are programs out there that will connect to the camera through fire wire and use the video signal as an input. (similar to using a webcam....) The quality is still there and what the program does is you designate how often you want it to take a picture and how fast you want to play it back at. The program that i used for Mac was:

http://www.boinx.com/istopmotion/overview/

Now im sure that there are some out there for PC but once you have all the frames captured the program lets you export them as various files and then you are done! Let me know if this helps!

I agree with you ltcpro, I mentioned that...

problem is no firewire out on the 150 - so you have to do it though HDMI and a capture box.

I've done "timelapse" with my HMC150. I edit in Vegas and just set the undersample rate to use, say every 4th frame, and adjust the playback rate to a high value. Looks good to me.

I also shoot timelapse with my Nikon D200 DSLR which has an intervalometer. I can set it to shoot a frame every 60 seconds, for example. Then import as a sequence into your favorite NLE.
